Recently I bumped into a guy from Acerbis UK and quizzed him about the moulds for my '85 500CR... did they still exist?

He came back to me a couple of days ago and said that he is 99% sure they still exist. The only downside is the minimum number of units that they would be prepared to produce in one run....

So before I start asking Acerbis to quote.... how many guys want/would like/have a need for a nice new tank for those years? ( I think they were the same... not sure about the other cc's though - somebdoy else might be able to help out there)

The other question is what sort of price would a new tank be worth or would people be prepared to pay? This could help in any negotiations.

I would be interested to know of the '86 510 tanks.
husqvarna-parts.com has the 85-86 Husky products large capacity tanks (4.5 gal) for the two stroke at $300.

I must admit I was being a bit selfish..... and only enquired about the 500CR tank... if they have this tank then I'm sure they have the 510..

My guess would be that they would want the same minimum run for what every the tank is...

If I get any feedback from the guys here then I'll go back and ask about the 510 tank.

I think a big seller for them would be the 1984 3.3 gallon plastic tank was on a lott of bikes.

For specifics, my 1984 parts list shows this as the 12.5 liter tank, Husky part number 15 14 113-01. It also shows it was used on the 250 WR & XC and the 500 WR, XC, CR & AE. All the 125's used the smaller tank.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat as mine looks like ol' yeller......

Any idea what the minimum run size is?

He muttered something about 100 because of the time it takes to set up the tooling.... alot depends on the cost per unit but then again we would be buying direct, no distribution, no resellers so I would be hoping for a keen price.

If I can organise something I'm not going to do it to make money.... the tanks would be available at cost plus shipping.

I'm a bit tied up at the moment but I'll ping the guy next week and see if I can get quotes for the 84 and 85 tanks.

Wouldn't this "84" tank issue go back to fit '81-'83's as well? I have a Clarke 3.5 gallon Dez tank that fits my '82, '83, frames/seat just fine? I don't remember when they changed the frame and the air box/filter configuration, '83? (I love the easy access air filter through the side cover) My '84 510TX is a different story as it has the low slung right side, but it seems to fit my '84 500XC as well and it had the low sided tank too. I don't run the side panels on any of my bikes so the matching of the tank and right side panel isn't a big deal to me. I'd be interested in a couple of stockers! Thanks, Remo

I have a 85 500xc and may be interested in a 500cr tank if it is a little slimmer and the price is right

Be good to know what the minimum run is. I have a yellow 86 510 tank.. a white one would be nice..doubtful there are 100 people out there wanting one though..
the 85/86 tank isnt bad looking as is up t0 83 but I have to say the 84 tank ...ugh .. like a volvo of the same era..square and ugly.. and the 87 tank .. what a monster between the legs..
How about the acerbis elba headlight?? have to be more than a 100 people wanting that one!

Count me in for at least one of the 84XC tanks and one for my 85WRX.

That would be great to have them produced. I would love to see the late 83,84 510 tank produced again. Its the same shape as the 81-83 alum. tank. I have a NOS one on my tank shelf. Has Husqvarna and Acerbis molded into it. Recess for the "H" is nice also. Never been make myself put gas in it!

I'd be in for 10 (ten) '86 510 fuel tanks.
