Hi guys, I currently own a '92 WXC 360 in need of a stator. Given the original motoplat was marginal at best and also no longer available I'd like to replace the whole ignition. I'm seeking advice on what ignition to get. I understand my '92 is a bit of an oddball ignition wise with the taper on the crankshaft being different (is it larger or smaller?) and my options are limited. From what I can tell my options are a PVL or electrex/HPI but I'm having difficulty deciding and am interested in testimonials, opinions, and advice because when it comes to electrics I am rather inexperienced. Thanks in advance.

Again, pardon the ignorance but is that akin to rewinding the stator?

they melt the potting material off and rewind it, and replace components if needed. new wiring as well. you have a mini 4 motoplat on your 360 however. a flaw with those are the magnets come loose in the flywheel, and wreck things. it may be best to buy an after market electrex in this case, or even another 360 crank from 93 or later that would let you have the more common ignition that were used for years, the kokusan.
the pvl can have problems sparking at low cranking rpms..and have no lights...personally i would go with the electrex if were to replace the whole ignition. there is nothing wrong with a good working motoplat like the mini 6, i wouldnt say they are marginal. the mini 4 may be a different animal tho

I had a 93 360 and ended up putting PVL in it. Been 10 years and it works great.

That's helpful info regarding the motoplats man, thanks. I think I'll steer clear of the PVL, I'd also like to avoid swapping cranks at this time. I've heard good things about electrex and have researched their website trying to find exactly what setup I need but am running into a bit of difficulty getting that info, looks like I'll have to email them. It seems like I may need to send them the diameter of the taper. Anyone have experience with this (electrex 360 ignition not measuring taper)?

Steve, regarding the rz, my girlfriend is from Clyde, NC and we've been thinking about moving down to Asheville. If we do I'll be sure to let you know and you can take it for a loop on 209

Thanks for your sharing your experience with the PVL too. I'm confounded at the moment but soon I'm sure I will see the light or no light in the case of the PVL ;)

That's good to know about Electrex lackluster costumer service. I also saw that the motoplat man is out until April 10th and I'm sure when he gets back he'll be inundated with stators to rebuild because I know I'm not the only one that has a soft spot for these bikes. I think I'll contact Andy from HVA per your recommendation and circumvent the headache that electrex sounds to be. Thanks for the info.

I suppose I wouldn't blame you, it doesn't have half the chassis a later era NSR, TZR, RGV etc but it's got all the power of those and a boat load of character to boot. I'll definitely take you up on that if we find ourselves down there

I put a replacement unit into my 1993 WR- i got it direct from www.hpi.be which i belive is selling these units to electrex world.
i bought the whole system- including stator, magneto, cdi and coil.
The bike runs fine- starting is a pleasure- its just running as it should be!
    I paid 230€ which i feel is a bargain!
