So picked up a immaculate 99 610 was riding and blew out all the bulbs on the bike I switched the the little 10 pack of AA batteries to a small 12 volt battery mounted right behind the shock changed oil and cleaned the carb n put a new air filter in put all new light bulbs in all lights work fine but bike will not fire it was hard starting to begin with but with no choke no throttle and at tdc usually a couple kicks she would fire I checked spark it's good I put a iridium plug in it thinking maybe plug or needle sticking in float bowl backtracking all my steps and really can't find anything any suggestions would be great bike is kickstart only with less than 200 miles on it been sittin but really well taken care of,,
Has the magnet set come loose in the flywheel and slipped out of time ? That flywheel is known for that.
Give it a shot of starting fluid, if it fires its a carb prolem if not its a spark or timing problem.
So got her fired up finally didn't want to idle at all air screw was all the in I turned up idle and backed air screw out about a turn ripped it down the street runs like a bat outta hell, pulled in the garage turned up idle some more n tried backing air screw out a 1/2 a turn she wanted to die and had a mild backfire she died but when bike is warm she fires right up I'm messing with carb adj, without possible the neighbors off, also timing chain is loud I just changed oil I used bel Ray synthetic 15/50 I started turning the cam chain ask screw it just turns if any one has adj trick please let me know I think timing is off though just because of the backfires but gonna play with air n idle screw a lil before going deeper
I would sell a lung for that model in such conditions. Put in the old air filter, check if your dell'orto has the auxilliary pump (I have no idea how it is called in English). If it has, then slide open the throttle for 3-4 times BEFORE kicking and WITHOUT opening the choke, then kick. If it starts, let it idle for 4-5 minutes, then turn it off. Check the spark plug color, and adjust the A/F mixture screw accordingly. Those bikes were very conservative jetting-wise as they came stock, so you may want to take a look at that. If none of this works, check the stator (right side cover). You don't have to drain the oil as the kicker models have a dry stator (yeah...). Let us know.
So got her running but air screw is turned out three in a half turns and still idling high with hard starting gonna order all new jets n replace n go from there once started runs like a raped ape but noticed it runs HOT!! For some reason I'm thinking timing????? A lot of backfires when trying to start
Most likely a jetting problem. If it backfires when releasing the throttle then it's probably lean on pilot jet, if it does only when starting again, probably still a carb problem. I don't know if by "raped ape" you mean good or shit.
Yes good runs great once started talked to Dan at motoexotica in Vacaville said same thing pilot jet gonna pull carb off n wait on jets thanks I'll update when done
