A better case-saver

After looking at various case saver designs for my 2009 TE 610 on the net, I started making a cardboard template to make my own, but halfway through I started thinking that making a complete aluminum box around the front sprocket to replace the plastic cover and at the same time have the aluminum portion that runs in line with the chain to stop it whacking the engine casings in case of a broken chain will be a lot better. I don't know what the chances are of breaking a chain, but prevention is better than cure. I will post some pics as soon as there is something finished.
Does anyone know what masterlink to use with the standard chain, I bought a link for a 520 DID X-link chain and the pins are too short by about 1.3mm. The salesman said that O-ring chains are no longer available, only X-ring ones???
