Eric and I made a last-minute decision to take advantage of the wet weather and ended up going riding on Sunday. We hit one of our favorite spots on the western slope of the Sierra and it was primo! It was 47 degrees and raining lightly when we took off on our ride. It rained off and on and we had some heavy fog, but the place is really rocky up top so the rain was a non-issue. The dirt down low got pretty sticky, especially since we were both running rear trials tires. They were hooking up like velcro in the rocks, though. I took a few photos of the trails, even though the trail is hard to discern sometimes...:D

    Wildflowers were everywhere...

There is some really good stuff up here; So good you can't stop and take photos while riding through it :smirk:

Some of the rocks were a bit rolly coming down the hill...

But were rock-solid going up

Yes, there are some dirt trails to be had here, and most of them are pretty rooty and/or rocky...

But some are nice and smooth...
(Hey, look! An actual photo of me!)

Nothing like a hot meal when cold and wet and tired...

We rode up this trail, thinking it was the way back to camp. Once we got to the top and it started to get gnarly, we realized it was not the way we'd come. We turned around and headed back down...

It doesn't look very steep from this angle (they never do...) but from here I could see over the tops of the trees that were at the bottom...

We made it back to camp with a very satisfying 43.77 miles logged on the day. And they were good miles, too. We probably did about 1/2 mile of fire road at most to get to where we were staged, but every other mile was exactly as pictured. Neither of us had been there in a few years, not since an enduro in `04 or `05, and we'd both forgotten how much fun this place can be. I hope we can go back before it gets blazing hot there.

When we were having lunch down by the creek, we saw two guys head up the hill. They were carefully picking their way through the rocks on the way down when we headed up. I think they changed their minds about that trail :p Those were the only other riders we saw all day...if you don't count the bozo in the tank top (47 and raining, remember?) and tattoos that unloaded his Honda CR250 2stroke and ripped around the staging area, sans helmet, where we had lunch. He also tried to blaze a new trail right up the side of the mountain, churning and spewing fresh dirt everywhere

Lucky you. A nice cool day of riding in the mountains. We had hoped that the cold front that brought you the rain would bring some down our way, but it was not to be. The weather here was pleasant, but the trails were the usual dust choked faire for this time of year. Great pics.
