While breaking in my Terra this weekend I decided to go grab a TAPP USB port from Twisted Throttle, who are about 30 miles away. I didn't feel like wearing my backpack there, so I attempted to strap it down on the back seat and rack with some Rok straps, but there are simply no good attachment points forward of the rack to do this. So, I decided to add my own to the muffler heat shields. As you can see in the pictures below I simply drilled a couple of holes in line with the existing fastener locations and screwed in a stainless steel drawer handle from the hardware store. I used a smoothly curved handle so that you won't catch a boot or anything on it while mounting or dismounting the bike. It works great and matches the mufflers so well that it looks stock. Just thought I would throw this idea out there in case anybody is having this same dilemma.

Well! My wife did not want me removing a Kitchen Drawer Handle so I found some Bungee Cord Bits that I never used on my 98 KLR. So just measured and cut some aluminum sheet for internal support, poked some holes and all is OK.

I also just did a Round Trip of about 700 k's in the Philippines from Tagaytay, Cavite to Daet, Camarines Norte with 32 lbs of Cargo Bag attached and no issues. Just an Idea! Regards to All Here - In Terra, Terra Land. Chris

Where did you find the 'bungee cord bits?' I like the look of the black.

Hi Scott, Heck I really do not exactly remember. I think that I found them at a Cycle Gear shop in San Diego back in 2006 / OR at APEX MC Shop in Colorado Springs, CO in 1999 ? I just never used them on the KLR but with the Terra with the twin shields I am glad I kept them. Sorry for not being able to provide you or other riders a source. Regards, Chris
