All 2st Airbox to Carb Boot Replacement

has anybody replaced their airbox to carb boot?
is there any tricks, seemed to have a silicone bead applied between the boot and the air filter support
also it seems to hit in one spot enough to deflect it on installation, am I overanalyzing this?

and if you look at the boot compared to the box from the outside it looks odd

Is that the replacement? I cleaned mine once and removed it from plastic. Found it didn't go back how I thought it would . can't remember if they both went inside and the air cage was held by the lip .

got it back together and on the bike
the boot is definitely an interference fit on the one edge the boot has a groove that engages, then you put silicone sealer on the support ring and snug the nuts to compress the assembly

I know I'll get shitcanned for this but I never(or very rarely) clean my airbox! Don't really see the point. Clean filter & housing it sits on but as for the rest of the box yeah, nah CBF! Every now & then I put the twin air cover on & fill it with degreaser to clean the crud out that builds up in the bottom & prevents water drainage but that's it. Mainly if riding in dry sand it mixes with excess oil. Sealed off bottom with 6mm drain hole tends to block easily

since I was going to work on it I cleaned it
air filter cleaner, hot water, kitchen sink

I only cleaned mine so I could get to the air filter.
Had a whole heap of crud in it before.

here is the boot off and you can see why I replaced it
the crack on the bottom was bigger than it looked mounted
went through very deep water at speed with the front wheel up and ON the throttle, the water forced it's way in and drowned the engine

Urggh that's scary perished.
