It costs me a new boot every time I start my Auto. are there any different kick-starts that fit please. One that swivels out or is cranked for some boot clearance.:banghead:

I think you should type some more. Which model 360 390 420 430 500 maybe there are more in europe. Where abouts on the boot is the damage occuring? I have started and rode the 420 and 430 rarely start it standing on or over it start with the ball (a few inches back from the toes in the center) of the right foot on the lever and standing on something. Some guys can do it on level leaning the bike towards them and kind of kicking back but I usually drag it to where I can stand on something. It isn't like you stall out in nasty spots like a normal bike. The only ruining of boots I know of is the kick starter wearing though the sole of the boot which can lead to numbness in the foot if you keep using those boots plus you can get wet foot if you dab in a stream.

I can not start the bike with my left leg so I stand to the side and use my right leg, the buckles on my boot then get ripped off by catching on the frame. The bike is an 81 420 Auto. Any and all advice gratefully received.

you can upgrade to a 83 and up kick start lever, you may have to change the rubber bumper on the case, but they work much better.
strong enough to start a 510...strong enough to start a smoker...
