OK, so ages ago i was looking at ways to protect the new fork legs i fitted to my gsx750w, and came across the usual fork savers, and covers etc. They all looked great, but for about £30 and more i wondered if there was a better way?

I was then walking round the local £1 shop, and saw that they had small neoprene wrist supports, then later on saw the waist support version that are about 300mm wide, and about 900mm long, with velcro stitch to one end, and just sticks to itself wherever its needed.

Bought a pack of wrist supports for the forks, then bought a waist support packet, and cut it in half and then shortened it enough to fit around the rear shock of the SM630.

Thought i would share with you all, so you too can make a REALLY cheap shock, or fork cover, and then maybe do what i do, and throw it away at the end of the season and buy a new one, save washing all the grit out. :)

Hope someone finds it useful. Will post picks soon.

OK, so excuse the spiders webs etc on the 750 , i haven't moved it for a little while, lol.... its due a clean and tidy up again now. The covers on the 750 fork legs are my MK1 design, as i used wrist supports, and they didn't have velcro on them, and the cover i have made for the husky rear shock is the waist support, as it has the velcro all the way down, and i have cable tied it to the top and bottom to stop dirt getting in. All in all the waist support was a pound, and the cable ties were about 4p, so a bargain IMO. :)

I would have no issues running these on the road - superb find for sure! That being said, offroad, I have been a FIRM believer in the real Shock Sox (the ones that go on/off in about 20 secs). It has been 5 maybe 6 years since I have had to fix a fork seal...so something sure is working!

After each ride, I pop the off and toss them in the washer with my gear. There is ALWAYS muck, grime and gunk in there - I cannot imagine letting that stuff build up for a year. I think the fronts for us int he US are only $18 or so on Rocky Mountain. IMO its one of the best bargains out there considering how expensive fork seals have gotten and what a PITA they are to change.
