• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Altrider crash bars preorder

Wolftrax

Husqvarna
A Class
The fine folks at Altrider are now accepting preorders for their bars. Pricing is set @ $238.97 and they are available in silver and black. Quote from Erik at Altrider "Yes we tried to match the lines of the bike perfectly. You might notice that in the photos one side is higher than the other but this is not permanent. That was our bad on the first mock up of the proto and both side will match with the production pieces.Yes we tried to match the lines of the bike perfectly. They look great. I am going to grab first available set at this point. Did just call Twisted throttle again. Still no SW guards available in country. They are waiting on paperwork. They did quote me a 200 to 250 estimate for the guards and 275-300 for the bag mounts. i have a set of trax bags so I can move from bike to bike is why I want them.

Great. Can you look at the front mount? I just E mailed them and was hoping to get a clear pic of the tie in of the crash guards to the front down tube. Only see the one horizontal bolt in pics. I understand developing them but would want to make sure it bolts to the down tube somehow for stiffness. Also how soon??

So, I just swung by Altrider and checked things out. The crash bars weren't mounted on the Terra, but Erik went and grabbed them and showed me how they mount. These are going to be NICE! They have a 5 axis laser cutter, so the tubing is perfectly flush BEFORE it's welded. I've seen where some companies will use welds like putty to fill the gaps. Not Altrider. Also, the engine mounts are done nicely and recess into the well of the frame. The cross bolts will be rubber coated stainless and very strong. I was really impressed with the craftsmanship and how personable the guys are at Altrider. A bunch of dirty bikes with cardboard templates and drawings everywhere is what it's all about. Lastly, these products are made in the USA! To me, that matters. Should be shipping in 4 wks. Here's some pics:

Very nice laser cuts:

Looking at the pics at the Altrider site, the right side bar follows the body panel much better and is higher than the left side. Is that something that will be addressed in the final product. If things aren't symmetrical it makes me crazy. You wouldn't believe how much time I spent getting the clutch and brake levers at the exact same angle.

i am very interested, but I wander if the rider's knees would touch the tubing? Particularly on the street....I have learned to squeeze the tank, so are the bars out of the way?
A post-install pic with rider would be most helpful, thank you in advance.

Hey V12,
I wish I would've taken a pic sitting on the bike to show the ergonomics for you. I can say with confidence that your knees/shins will not make contact with the crash bars. They are designed with this in mind. Also, symmetry will be addressed as these are the prototype. Hope that helps you.

I am sold. I decided I am pre-ordering these. I called Twisted throttle yesterday. The SW Motech TR items are still in the paperwork stages etc of getting approvals and such and I got another estimate of 4-6 weeks. I understand their issues in getting these imported I know that they will be getting them, just seems like later than sooner.

I emailed ALTRIDER about a question on their mounts and I got 2 emails from 2 different people in very short order. I really liked their customer service. I do like the fact that ALTRIDER products are US made, supporting them means funding them, which should hopefully mean more willingness on their part to look at producing more related TR items etc.

I met these guys on a dual sport ride that they hosted all the way out here in PA last summer. Good bunch of guys to boot...

Pre-order complete! Maybe if they get enough, they'll move the production along a bit quicker. One can hope, right?

Also, big thanks to Harder1 for the hands-on input on the bars. I was on the fence about whether to pre-order, but your testimonial sealed the deal.

I have a 919 and sliders attached to the engine mount were doing serious damage to the case when the sliders were put to use. The lever arm on a slider is longer, but is there any potential of cracking the cylinder mount with this setup? Any other bikes with a similar layout that have been in operation for a while?

Me the opposite, asymetry is the way to go, that way you have to line up nothing, as long as it WORKS. Had a riding buddy who spent a fortune getting his Suspension re-worked then promply got it home and lined up the clickers across the bars and up and down on the tubes , go figure.
