I hit a tree and tore the right side wing, that is shaped like the stock shroud, off of my IMS tank. Has anyone else done this or am I the first?

ive seen what your talking about, looked like a really bad design, does clarke make a tank for your bike?

Your the first one I've heard of having half of your tank ripped off. Most of the other ones crack up by the filler neck or they get pin holes usually on the bottom of the tank.

I don't think Clarke makes one.

It was high 60's. I understand that someone is working on a different design and one that works with a stabilizer. I'll keep ya'll posted when it comes to reality.

I emailed Clarke two weeks ago asking/requesting a tank for the '08~ EFI TE Huskys. Their reply was; "no plans at this time to make a tank for these bikes" :banghead:

So if I understand correctly. You were riding and the tank just broke in half? Or did you just run out of talent and crash or hit a tree or something. Did it destroy a radiator ? if not then had to work as a rad guard something good then. Few things are crash proof. Later George

I'm sorry to hear it but I'm with George on this one. You crash into a tree and broke the tank and somehow IMS is responsible?

I offered Clarke a bike to work from the day they arrived in early 08, no interest which sux as the Clarkes seem built to a much higher quality.

i can only assume he was alluding to the fact that the design of the tank using the shrouds wasnt the greatest idea ..especially if you are going to crash into trees  ..these tanks are always a compromise on something this time it apparently is crashability

having bent so many of those regular shrouds from riding in tight trees i can see how that might happen. anyhow speaking as someone who runs out of talent on a regular basis and crashing into many varied bits of scenery i can testify not many things are crash proof except (in my experience so far) the front axel, the triple clamps and strangely enough the stock petrol tank :D

True but these, because of the design look like a broken tank waiting to happen. Clarke had a similar design and never heard of anyone breaking one. The clarke ones seem like much better plastic, less porous, thicker and just better designed. It is unfortunate.

    - Maybe I'm still just torqued that after building a million tanks for off road they still messed up the damper mounting area with a totally unnecessary intrusion. Really, what were they thinking?

Overall i do like the tank, it is slim and carries the fuel low and mine fit well.

I think IMS just didn't put enough R&D into making the tanks for the 08,because they knew the where gonna sell quite a few of them if they where to be the first ones to offer a tank for the 08's. Maybe they'll do some redesigning and make the tank fit a little better and be a little stronger.

Every time I crash the tank is the first thing I check. It's held up to more than I expected. I've had it down hard on its side many times and no breaky.......yet.

To sum up: I did hit a tree....medium hard. It pushed the radiator back a little. I DID RUN OUT OF TALENT! No, I didn't really expect IMS to do anything about, but it was worth a try. I was mostly just irritated at the whole ordeal. First it didn't fit, then the shrouds were not compatible, then the graphics didn't really look that great, then the stabilizer wouldn't work and now I broke a $275 tank on the 2nd ride. It was very slim though and did it's job. The good thing is now I can practice heating it to try to get the stabilizer to work.

Just relax kick back have a beer (or more) and the dez/worcs racers at your local/national level Husky race team will have a newly dialed in design that will be golden for TC/TXC models with any steering stab installed.

    some more patience is needed.

    What he said...

I've glanced off a few tree with my IMS tank.
    I won't call them crashes.:D
    Tanks do'n just fine.
If you've hit a tree hard (Crashed) why is it IMS's fault?:excuseme:

get this dudes broken tank and start experimenting with cutting the front tab down for the dampener.
