I hate it but I may want the dez tank for this one, although they said L1 will have an out on the course fuel stop at 35 miles. after discussion with other local dez guys the IMS tank is going on. I'll have my little 2gal waiting at 35mi and 3 gals waiting at end of L1(60mi) to fill the IMS for the last 40. Fuel strategy is solved no need to carry.
just got home it worked me, another TXC450 finish! only issue besides me taking a few breaks (and 1 long one to recover) Was that my stupid clutch was coming and going--AGAIN. saw more and more Huskys, including Kamo's 2011 TXC
Hey Rob, Got your message. Glad you made it in safe. We had to leave, Ed had to be at work at 2p...It was great to see more Huskies out there battling...I was at the 7 mile marker and Kamo came by like in 20th (Must have got a bad start). Saw him at the alt. gas, then the finish. He came in 6th (Unofficial), about 14 minutes from race leader Casselli...Casselli is on fire right now, I think he led from start to finish...Kamo worked his way up all race...If he gets a good start, I think he's top 3 at this race...Just like Cory G. at Tecate HS last month, Kamo showed up in his pick-up truck, with a family member helping him, and raced. No fancy rigs from ZTR today, that I saw. He was the only ZTR racer down there... Mitch
Chilly (Enduro 360) reports that Dave Kamo blew up his race bike on Sat during practice riding. Ty drove down Sat eve with a stock machine (he wrote 449) to race on Sun with only Daves suspension bits installed. More on my ride, another ugly (not as bad as one other) uphill rock canyon is where I found some cool shade, I was dizzy and my rock hopping balance was all screwed up, so I took a long calm rest with water and 1/2 powerbar, after 15-20 mins I got up to continue and within 15 feet I was still faltering/teetering so I just sat back down got my legs up and chilled for a while longer as long as 1/2 hour total maybe even more to regroup. I was happy because once recovered I was able to push on to the finish. Another thing was midway into the L2 I stopped and took 3 clicks out of fork comp knowing that we were going deeper into the rock zone, the funny thing is that in between are sections of pure sand even some dunes I felt the forks working great in the rocks but man I was waaaay back in the saddle for the sand and laughing at myself.
This old man had a ok ride Rode the WR 250 and on the first 60 mile loop just cruized because it will only go so fast with a 5 speed .On loop 2 the 250 worked great all the sand dunes were no problem and then over the mt to the rock gardens .There was a short boulder filled canyon where i passed at least 15 guys They were all there on there over heating KTMs and Hondas but the WR 250 just cruised up .Finished 50th overall and 4 th open mag expert out of about 300 racers On a side note on Sat i rode a new KTM 250 2 stroke when i was done ridding it i said Husky you need to up date the WR 250 as the KTM feels lighter ,has a 6 speed ,Hyd clutch, comes with a fatty pipe, comes with a 3 gallon tank, has electric starter which was broken already and a few more things that make it appear as a better bike BUT the part of this storie to remember is the bike i rode before the race overheated ,and blew up during the race and the rider got a DNF SO when Husky does make a new updated WR 250 it will still be better then a KTM
prelims great ride John K!! they still have Kamo on a Kato......... me, 97 OA one of the very last 2 loop riders (funny, was wondering why no was around and passing me)! Nat class 8th Sen B, local D38 6th Sen Am http://www.district37ama.org/forums/att ... 1299481791
I cannot figure out what happened... someone sent me a release about last weekend, I put it up here: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/husky-has-winning-weekend-march-6-7th-2011.17085/
I did not trash the KTM in fact i stated the bike i rode was better then my WR 250 .i really liked the bike and stated Husky needs to up date the same old WR 250 which has not changed since about 2000 BUT what i did state was that the bike i rode also overheated and blew up during the race so in fact my old WR 250 must be a better bike since it finished and has finished every race it has entered since 2006 I am still waiting for a change in the WR 250 otherwise my 2006 bike is the same as a new 2010 since no one has seen a 2011 in the USA yet .Once a new WR 250 is made i will be first in line to purchase it
hmm, this old man,,,sheesh!!! JK this will be my 50th year, back to the bottom of the class... My take (has no bearing at all) on a new 2T husky for R&D savings, keep the "old motor" do some minor updates and build a new chassis around it (thats pretty much what KTM does/did for 2011).
Wait till you turn 55 every year it gets harder to run with the younger racers .As for the WR 250 the motor is tuff .It is heavy because it is so well built over kill it never breaks .But everything else around the motor could be updated and still be a great bike .In fact i have been racing the 250 more then my CR125 and like the 250 more .BUT the few changes it needs are to be lighter ,then a 6 speed would be nice and then a easier pull clutch .No need for a electric start .Next National is up in Idaho in 2 weeks long drive for a 100 mile race
http://www.enduro360.com/2011/03/07...centro-national-hare-hound-results-and-video/ The little shady spot on the left of the up hill canyon video is where I took my refresh the old guy looong break.
Best part about those 2 rocky canyons is The Heavy old school WR 250 went right thur no problems just like a enduro bike should .I must have passed 15 guys in there plus i got to see the kid who always beat me sitting there throwing up from over heating both himself and his bike .At my age you find pleasure in the younger guys problems
http://exposureroom.com/members/RaceVisionsl/ddae31e7360e4825ab08c0e679946287/ dez racing....by the way the kid who crashed was on a Husky, he was airlifted to the hospital but has since been released. PS in small flashes of brilliance I jumped off all the "waterfall" steps, unassisted. Good shots of the "mile of rocks" uphill, tough section, that one as well as the second arena of uphill ugliness. The pros just bounce through like nothing.
