Only 2 weeks to go and the 100s motorcycle club has been out in the desert working hard .Since it looks like there is no way i can win the over 50 #1 plate again i have been talked into being a loop captain. So i will be working instead of racing .This year we will make loop 1 and 2 only 20 easy miles each .No need for big tank or desert stuff ,if you have ever thought of trying a desert race much less a National this is the one .At least come try plus come see the Factory Husky desert team mix it up with some of the best racers in the world
So far,,,,,,,IN. bike and me should be ready( a little weak on conditioning) to go but can't convince any of my crew to join the fun,,,maybe C&D cyles Steve may come up. R
I have always had the thought Why have a bike if you will not race it The view from last place is better then the one you get sitting at home or in the pits .I also feel desert racing is so much safer then trail riding where who know what is around the corner Plus if you do get hurt there is a ambulance there and a plane on stand by Come on try harder to get the San Deigo guys to show up
going to the MD this morn to have a ticker talk. ........ working hard to support this event I know it will be a great one from your club! I will keep the pressure on the local crew. And need to get my clutch back together!!!
R&Rd slave piston o-ring with Up-Tite X ring, bled out easily (but time consuming) note the slave cyl and the piston had no wear on them at all, the hard coat (gray) was all there. O ring that came off was very flat on the mating surface. Clutch feels fine in the drive way, needs a real world test before the Nat. The push rod had a little wear mark from the ball bearing. Good to go
today, hard test ride, clutch intermittant must be air,,need to bleed more. ready to hit the course. Might throw in a new clutch just to be safe....but it never slips, but could be worn to thinness below spec after this long and all my clutch slipping (left hand auto clutch). Anyone else doing this ride? R
at least just spectate (local guys) you can see the ZipTy team and all the other top level dez/xc teams as well KTM, KAW, JCR Honda. and watch us get hammered in the rocks on L4!!! praying for my clutch to hang in there!!!
I kept thinking about the super technical sections of the last 2 H&Hs and I got squirrely about my clutch issues and just ran out and bought a new clutch, I will stuff it in later today.R
got a tc250 clutch wrong P/N did not know until I pulled mine out at home..... So no new clutch. 1/2 way through first loop no clutch, zero ,,,,,kept plodding on as it was not so technical but was difficult for clutch user me,,,added fluid at end of L1..long pit stop. Hit L2 lost clutch when I needed it most,, but I kept on pumping it and hoping for best, pitted to top off tank for L3 and checked fluid just added and filled above the reccomended 6mm from top edge maybe 3-4mm from top. Also carried a bottle with 3/4 gal of fuel to be safe, as it was the logest loop at @ 40mi. Went out on L3 thinking if it (mr clutch) does not come back I would DNF as L4 was to be brutal........by 1/2 way into L3 it was working great and I was stoked....pitted gassed up drank water+pedialyte ate an energy bar refilled my drink system and hit L4 with a good clutch !! I can not explain L4 but suffice it to say that it was very very technical extreme enduro loop,,with no clutch it would have been impossible. I finished my goal was another H&H finish (thats 3 starts 3 finishes top ten in nat points SEN B weekend warrior class),,,,,and I recieved no ugly section minder outside assistance ! The 100s MC were very good about having people stationed at the ugly sections. Hope for some good photos from those sections plus Beau (Pro-Moto.TV) just returned from ISDE and had has camera in full effect and plus got some high speed Helmet cam stuff from Kamo (its nutty dez fast) Mucho thanks to the 100s MC for setting this one up (Ajax's Club did a great job) the last couple of hills were sick and those four foot and bigger rock sections were nutty,,I have a feeling those last sections broke alot of riders, but that is what I always practice (and man it payed off on this ride)
Thank you Robert for comming out and supporting both Husky and Desert Racing A few key points Husqvarna HAD the biggest semi Truck there with all the Factory bikes both 2 and 4 strokes Scott Harden was there to help support the team and answer questions Factory riders Nic Burson 5 th overall Ty Davis on on the 300 2 stroke 7 th overall and remember he is over 40 years old Unofficiall i belevie Nic Burson will have the # 1 Desert open overall for 2010 So Husky is back in the Desert as # 1
note I used my fave rear tire that was ( I got it used from GP) even worn down some and I credit it for a lot. Michelin FIM comp 140/80,,,balloon at 10psi with UHD tubes,, kept me up on top of the sand/rock hills and not digging trenches and sticks like glue on rocks. Oh yeah its now completly sacrificed. I think some of the ecross guys are using them with personal knob cutting.
This race was extremely fun. I had 4th locked up until the final 4th loop. I made a few mistakes and didn't charge hard enough through the last loop. Ty actually finished 6th overall. Pretty impressive especially on the wr 300. I have a race report up on my website and will have some pictures up in a few days. Thanks for all the support. www.nickburson.com
