Villopoto crushed it in the 450 class, he had time to stuff the front wheel and still finish with around a 16 second lead. Nice win for the kid in the 250 class too. James Stewart got the wrath of Alessi this time. Looks like his header got ripped off and cost him any decent finish. I was lucky enough to see it live. Pretty clean riding throughout the night IMHO.
Quite a race again ... That track was really bad-a$$ again ....As hard as it is to conceive how they guys take off on those rutted jumps, how the heck do they land on those rutted out receiver ramps? My hat is off to all those guys ... Too bad on Stew ... He was trying to miss that downed bike but just too close .. Those guys are so in-control out there ... Watch how Stew goes down that long straight-away and is looking down at his bike and then looks up and does that triple as if it is nothing ... RV2 is making a living railing that outside line... That pass on Wilson at the start was unbelievable ... 18sec lead well before the end of the race? Say what you want but this guy is in a class by himself ...I always considered him an outdoors rider .... Wilson looked like a real contender battling with KR94... I guess he just ran out of juice I bet that track looked pretty gnarly in person ... Did you go down to the pits and see any of the riders?
AS29 is on some sort of mission ...I was really happy to see him in the top 5 ...Tickle was another rider stepping up out there ... I guess Milsaps is gonna sit out the entire SX season? -- 40% of the top 10 bikes were ktm? ... SP is a Juggernaut racer.
There were several crashes in the Daytona practices this yr ... You probably noticed ET3 (Eli Tomac) , WP40 and a couple others did not race due to crashes .. I can't find much on the web on the practice stuff or even post race interviews ... If you have any pointers to the post race interviews, please post them or send me a PM with the links ... I always like hearing what the riders have to say ... Here is a crash RV2 had in practice .. http://moto.mpora.com/videos/big-crash-in-daytona-from-ryan-villopoto.html
I watch these races over and over since I have so much time on my hands and I really can't see how 1 guy is making a lap so much quicker than the rest of the field ... These are all fast guys yet, 1 guy out there amongest all the riders, just can not be kept up with ... He dropped the field so quick, it was really mind boggling ... He was gone so fast, I doubt his lines could even be copied. At the half way point of this race, this guy is ~16 seconds in front of everyone else ... What if he tried to go really fast? What if he tried to go fast the entire race? <-- Yep, I'm the dreaded 'What-if guy' many of us had to endure in class ... My hat is off to this young man.
