i have a magellan 600 gps and want to wire it into either the high or low beam and was wondering if the amp draw would be ok.. not sure what the gps pulls.. it is a handheld one... anyone???? cheers..

hey i dont know what it would pull but if you use the power equation which is I=P\Vwhich basically means if you find out what wattage the high beam globe is and devide it by 12 you will get the max current draw that should give you your answer.... make sense???

Anything handheld, battery powered is going to draw next to nothing in terms of current. That headlight circuit shouldn't even know the gps is there.

you should just run a fused power leed from your batter to ur bars.

The gps draw is probably less than 500 milliamps (half an amp). Personally, I'd wire it straight to the battery with a fuse like suggested above, but you don't want to leave it on/in the mount or it will drain the battery. An hour or so? No problem. Overnight? Iffy. Two weeks in the garage? Forget it.
