The 5 day forecast had it looking to be a hot one in South Carolina, Saturday night a front moved thru, but the rain stayed away and the fog cover moved in, keeping it below 60 degrees for the morning race. Track was decent and fast...near perfect conditions.

This time they moved his 200C 16+ start row up to line 9, about mid-pack in this sea...14 riders on the row.

Got off to a mid-pack start again...need to work on that! Actually ran into Fred Andrews and he watched Andy's start and gave a few pointers for a better start technique.

It was shaping up to be a 4 lap race and he should be able to stay on the lead lap.
1st lap he came thru 4th and was 38 seconds down to 3rd place.

The 2nd lap he was still in 4th and still 38 seconds down to 3rd.

Lap 3 found him in 3rd but now he was down 1 minute 25 seconds. At one point he said he was behind the slow train on some single track that was driving him crazy. The same lap he was 8 deep at the scoring area...all costing him some valuable time.

The last lap is where things got interesting. He put in one of his better laps while others were fading. At the final infield section 2nd place ran out of gas in sight of the finish. While his dad was running to put some gas in his bike Andy entered the infield. He did not even realize that 2nd was stopped, usually he's aware of who's around him. He actually passed him and had a easy shot at 2nd place but washed the front out in the next to last turn letting the other guy slip by. Andy finished 3rd in class by 9 seconds and 31st overall out of 247 points paying entries. He said it was the only time he was down all race. We are going to chalk this up to experience, we seem to be having a lot of learning lessons lately! Anyway; as Andy put it, he pulled a 'Mullins' at the wrong time. I really don't think there ever is a right time to do it...
Some good father/son, team manager/rider discussions were had, kept it civil; mostly about staying in the game mentally until the end and finishing the race!

Currently he sits in 2nd place in the class points...but there is a lot of racing to go yet...

We have a couple of weeks to improve our act and then off to Tenn.

Thanks to...Toy Tech Cycles, KB5 Industries, Cycra Handguards, Gaerne Boots, One Industries, RK Chain, Wiseco Pistons, EVS Sports and Cafe Husky for your support!
