It was good to go south. Warmer weather and a great track. Things were fairly uneventful for driving that many miles from Pa. Signups, hotel and a good nights sleep. They started his class almost near the back. I think there was 440 riders overall in the morning race with 17 riders on his 200C line, again he was the only Husky on the line... He got off the line decent, with a long run to the corner...Ended up going into the woods in 6th. By his first trip thru scoring he had dropped back to 8th in class and 258th overall with his front number plate swinging from the brake line. Knowing how distracting and possibly dangerous this could end up, I pullled him in, cut the plastic brake line holder and pulled the plate...hence the no number plate look. Hoping for the best with everything exposed! Found out later he was being somewhat impatient with the slower riders and got taken out; not once, but twice. He did learn this costs time and energy and... Hence the no number plate look... But putting his head on straight and charging...Lap 2 found him 3rd in class and smelling blood...you know where this is going... Lap 3 found him 2nd in class... On the left, on the gas, against some big bore... The checkered flag found him 1st in class and 54th OA. Link to lap times...http://www.racer-results.net/results/gncc/2011/laptimes.asp?e=12&c=48&s=4&r=2 We're not sure what happened to the guy Andy was chasing, out of gas or crash?...they were aware that Andy was on the move. Just not sure, but that's racing. Having an end of race discussion about passing practice with the team manager...mom! Bike...ran fantastic with the last mods I posted. One side effect (good); the total race time was 2 hours and 12 minutes, and with the IMS tank...there was actually almost 6'' of gas left in the tank. Plug looked real good, rider feedback was positive! Round 3 in two weeks... Thanks to...Toy Tech Cycles, KB5 Industries, Cycra Handguards, Gaerne Boots, One Industries, RK Chain, Wiseco Pistons and Cafe Husky for your support! Be sure and drop Andy an ''atta boy'' on the way thru...he does keep track!
Congrats! I love GNCC racing. It is cool to see how well you do overall. That is a great final picture with the Husky in full glory!
I checked the lap time and they were even better as he went on. That looks great. Great job! He may have a future in this. Looks like he could be the next Chris Bach to me.
That's awesome! Congrats And the soil and weather looked PERFECT. I wish there was GNCC racing here on the west coast.
AMA Western HS series is the closest thing to GNCC we have out west here (in nat class series). The one and only one I did was epic and really twisted around the countryside with all sorts of terrain and single track thrown in (It was at the former RynoLand now The Ranch in Anza Ca.) http://www.cyclenews.com/articles/off-road/2010/12/16/2011-ama-western-hare-scrambles-schedule http://www.bigskyxc.com/
Round 6 is here in Oregon. Look up Funky Chicken and watch some of the videos. They put on a great course and it gets downright brutal if it rains. I raced it two years ago in the dry and it kicked my butt.
