gonna have a crack at it this week. hoping to just have to remove the tank and side panels. has anyone got any tips for the removal and install? have heard it's worth cracking the manifold bolts when it's hot then returning and taking out when cooled. it looks like i should be ok leaving the rads on and all hoses in place although may need a hinged socket to get to the mainfold bolts. any advice greatly appreciated
Put some never-seize on the muffler clamp bolt. I had to replace it when I broke it trying to get it loose. Watch your spacers and make sure they are in the right place to line the muffler up. The carbon fiber hangers will scratch the muffler also, be careful slideing them on.
thanks for that fella. handy to know about the carbon hangers, will be extra careful. did you get access to the manifold bolts ok without removing hoses?
i am having real trouble getting to the bottom bolt holding the right hand manifold on (as you look at the bike). anyone got any ideas, driving me mad!
all sorted discovered these nifty little numbers in halfords and were just the ticket http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...2597_langId_-1_categoryId_165572#BVRRWidgetID
i didn't seem to need a clamp bolt. the muffler slid on to the centre manifold so there was no need/way to use it. think i managed to keep the muffler scratch free thanks to your advice so nice one wish i could say the same for the carbon splinters i now have
Mine (08) has a clamp on the mid-pipe to muffler, I kept the original head pipes so didn't have to break the bolts on the head. For the splinters get a carbon fibre magnet, will pull them right out.
yeah mine's an 08 too but the muffler didn't have a male end to clamp anything on to, just a female slot. will check later to make sure i haven't forgotten anything! never heard of carbon fibre magnets, nice one! i may result to scalpel self-surgery before then though!
