After I dnfed a round of our race series I was watching a guy on his yzf as it seemed pretty usefull, When he pitted for fuel ect he stopped for a while to look the bike over as it was brand new plus he was knackered lol. Our quick conversation about the bike he commented the forks were way way to hard, other than that he was loving it.
Not a great help I know lol
Rumour mill is alive that yamaha are to release a wr version !!! Only time will tell on that front.

Found it. Here's some points from the article in ADB June2014 about Jemma Wilsons 2014 YZ250f.
(I know Motosportz is probably asking for first hand info but anyway...)

    • "It turns alot differently to the old bike because Yamaha has centralised a lot of the weight"
    • "(standard) suspension was far too hard"
    • "the stock engine has really nice enduro, low-down power"
    • "To make up for the lack of electric start, I recently installed a Rekluse clutch, which has made life alot easier"
    • Force radiator guards
    • EGO Jet Barkbusters
    • Force bashplate
    • Standard exhaust, standard engine, custom map
    • MPE suspension
    • Stock 19" rear wheel

Also, Chris Hollis and Daniel Milner were on the new YZ250f for the Enduro X series earlier this year.

I know an A grade racer who loves his Ktms and loves his 350 xcf, he told me not to ride one, why I said ??
cos you'll be 9 grand lighter cos you'll want it immediately.

Apparently so good out of the box it's absolutely stupidly fast and easy to use.

I have been fascinated since this first came out and the reports make it sound like it could be a great off road bike (torque motor, light, nimble). I started this thread over a ytear ago when it first came out.

I like new tech a lot and like Yamaha and thought this bike might be good. Turns out it was and won many shootouts and does very well in MX. I really want to try one in the woods.

I wanna know more about the WR please! I looked at the Yamaha Europe site and it seems quite the capable enduro weapon. It seems they are the same as 2013? It looks to be and seems they haven't imported 14 or 15's.
Plus it's Komifornia Green Sticker approved!

My son rides a backward engine 2011 yz450 and loves it. I've ridden it and it feels lighter than it is and turns way better than you would expect. The suspension is really good right out of the crate especially if you're a fast rider. I put bark busters a skid plate, rad guards, Tubliss, AT81 tires and a 49T rear sprocket and he has done endurocross with it as well as hare scrambles and miles of gnarly woods riding. He throws his 450 around like a 125 but he is 6'8" and extremely fit... the engine tires me out (probably because I'm not skilled at riding 4 strokes) It starts really easy even when hot but you have to kick it slow/even and smooth, if you kick it fast like a 2 stroke it will wear you out. I've been curious about the lighter 250 because I like my son's 450 so much. I'd have to ride one to know it wasn't gutless on the bottom like all the other 250 4Ts I've ridden. I'm die hard a 2 stroke rider but if I had to have a 4 stroke I would go Yamaha for sure... probably another 450.

Last couple or rides I have been on a 07 aluminum framed YZ450F to test a Lectron on. I'm finding I like it more than I thought I would. I really want to try a 2014 YZ250F now.

Have you been on a 2010 or newer YZ450 with the backward engine yet? Compared to the CRF450R Honda (my son's old bike) that I rode the YZ is twice as good in the woods.

I have not. Ride with a guy who has ridden one and he flat loved and and said it was a HP monster. He has piles of Yamahas (125.250.450) and knowns the bikes well. I kinda hate CRFs for many reasons and find this YZ450F WAY more to my liking than those bikes.

A guy I race against just got a 2015 yz250f and raced it this past weekend. He likes it a lot. Says it turns much better than his 2012.

This is the rumour from respected local dirtbike mag here in Aus ADB.
It's kind of a 'freind of a mate's dog-trainers Auntie' said thing, but hope it happens....

The YZs feel more open and tall guy friendly than the Honda. The YZ 450 turns way better than you would expect it to so one would think the 250 would be really good as long as you're ok with the smaller displacement.

Slightly off topic but a good buddy has a nice YZ125 all setup for off road. It is lowered and handles like crazy. We both agreed if Yamaha built this bike in a 175 (IT175 anyone) it would be fantastic.
