I've been using it for years in my 2010 Txc250 thumper with absolutely no issues. I recently picked up a MY17 TE250 which is is my first experience with a 2-Stroke. I've still got a few jugs of the Mobil1 and I thought about using it as gearcase oil in the new bike. Its time for my first oil change.

The manual suggests 10w-40 synthetic, so I'm thinking it should be fine. Anyone else with a MY16+ using it in their smoker?

Wow I thought the 2 strokes ran a gear oil like 50w.

I run ATF in my 2 stroke gear cases. Started this with my 1999 360WR to help with excessive drag. Recently sold that bike with all original clutch.

I ran the Mobil one in my txc310, but on my 2015 TE250 and now in my 17 TE300 I run the BELRAY gear saver.

I use it in my 300 2t and 501. The 501 has 5800 miles on it now, shifts perfect and oil changes are drama free as in no mystery pieces on magnets and filters.

Have put two changes with 13 hrs on with Motul 10w30. Minute bits of metal on magnet but anticipate normal with break-in. Shifts beauty. Am tempted to go with the manufacture spec Belray next time to see if there is ANY difference..

I like the OEM recommended Bel-Ray EXL mineral oil. Keeps the cogs happy, no issues whatsoever.

I do the same with my 2 and 4. Keeps it simple in the garage and both are working fine.

Yes I use it in the gearbox of my WR250 shifts good no problems so far. Tried Rotella 5w-40 and it seemed to make gear changes a little notchy

Gear oil & engine oil have different weights that mean the same. I believe like a 70w gear oil is same as a 40w engine oil if im not mistaken. Ive been using rotella T6 5w-40 in mine every few rides no problems so far, as said above my shifting does seem a little notchy so I may try something els out once I run out. Any oil is better than no oil, just keep on routine changes & im sure you wont have a problem.

I've been using rotella t-6 5-40 in all my 2 and 4 stroke bikes and ATVs for years with excellent results. It is jaso-ma rated which means it is ok for wet clutches.

Your TE250 manual says synthetic? My '17 TX300 manual says Bel-Ray EXL Mineral 4T oil. I ran that during my break-in ride (2 hours), changed it out with more of the same. Then went for a longer ride, and after about 3 hours the clutch turned into an on/off deal. So I changed over to the same stuff I use in all bikes: Rotella T6. It's in my street bike, my subaru forester and was used in my WR250, TE511, KLR650 and KLR250 when I had them. I can get way more than 10 hours out of it in the 2 stroke, but usually just change it after 2 rides. Amazon has the best price. I usually buy four 1 gallon jugs rather than the 2.5 gallon jugs, because the better pricing is on the 1 gallon. And the 1 gallon jugs are much easier to pour.
