Title says it all. Looking for the stickiest track tire for a 4.25", and the Supercorsa sc seem like the best option. Pirelli website recommends a 150 for a 4.0" rim and 160 for a 4.5" rim. Not sure which is best for 4.25". Hoping someone has experience running these on the track they can share. Thanks
I know that you asked about the Pirelli and I'm sorry for the off-topic, but since you wrote I just want to say that during my last trackday there was a guy with an XR 650 who used this: Michelin SM 16/63-17, installed on a 4.25" rim. It didn't seem to be much squeezed and the guy (who was pretty fast, considering the bike) said that they worked well.
Thanks for the suggestion. Would definately prefer sumo slicks, but don't want to spend the money on a 5" rim. Based on several forum comments, A little concerned a 160 would be too pinched and reduce contact patch. Can't find any rim size recommendation on the Michelin SM.
The supercorsas are aimed primarily at supersports etc, you might find trouble getting heat into them with the lower speeds and weight of SM. I too wanted something to fit the 4.25 inch rear rim, have been really happy with Bridgestone BT003RSs. Quick warm up, 5 times better than stock rossa corsas
Thanks. I have BT003, and looking for the next level of sticky, without having to spend another $400 to $500 for a 5" rim too. I think I'm pushing the lean angle / sticky limits on BT003. Have low sided a few times without warning on the track, and tired of bruises, twists, jabbed body parts. Other options I'm looking at are the Contiattack SM or the Dunlop Unbeaten 02.
I use the Contiattack SMs and the rear one is a 150/60 tyre on a 4.25" rim. IMO on the track they provide both a good grip and a good feeling. They also made my bike nimbler.
Cant say anything for the 003, but have run PP , Q2's, and the Contiattack SM's and the bridgestone S20's , (all 160s with the 4.5 wheel) street and trackdays. The conti's SMs were the stickyist, followed closely by the Q2's. The only issue i had was the SMs melted my innertube to the tire.
My q3's are working fantastic on my 511. I hit some serious speed down the straight 75-80 even on the super tight kart tracks, but my corner speed is medoicre. (need more ground clearance and better brakes). The tires so far have been extremely predictable and great all around. Lasting almost 3 full track days and 800 street miles. I had q2's and the 3 is infinitely better and longer lasting so far. Favorite tire so far on the street is michelin pilot power 2ct. I had the supercorsa on my ducati stock. WORST tire ever but very long lasting.
Well I ran a Supercorsa Rear with a stock Rosso Corsa Front and that rear tire was STICKY AS EFFF!!! I was scrapping pegs through The Snake ALL DAY on that tire so I feel REAL confident saying it might be ur best bet!!!
