125-200cc Australia 2010 wr125 costs $10295

As much as I like this bike, I think we in Australia are just paying way too much for simple dirt bikes. The wr125 is not a big seller. Probably only a few have been sold in Australia. What do the USA guys think about a AUS $10,000 price tag ... probably equivalent to about USA $8500 at 85cent exchange rate.

I should just buy direct from the USA. Only problem is I cannot road register the bike.

What kind of warranty do you get in OZ?

You get 12 mths warranty in Australia. Thats for this years bikes though

Do you have a VAT (value added tax) in Australia? That would add a bunch to the bottom line, too.

Ajax Auto and Ajax Auto Wrecking has sold many used cars, trucks and motorcycles plus many used parts into Austrialia Most of the time our Australian custermer want wrecked cars or trucks so the import dudy will be less then they fix them there.
I have shipped a few race trucks over to do the Sindey to Perth race and then sold the truck after the race We have a custermer who has come to our yard and filled a shipping container with american parts like tranny and motors then we deliver it to the dock to be shipped to Australia .
As far as the motor cycle thing last month there was a really big auction of used late model motorcycles and quads .Alot were bank repos .There must have been over
2000 units .A guy from Australia must have bough over a 1000 of them now i know why he was paying over book on used bikes .If we can ever help you just let me know
maybe you might want to start buying bikes from us in the usa and have them shipped over our prices sure seem cheaper here

Just remeber the exchange rate is just that. The reality test is that the purchasing power of the A$ internally is similar the the USD. Easiest way to explain this is the old McDonlads Big Mac test. What this means is after taxes and stuff the average joe in the US or Oz with a weekly pay packet will end up pretty close in terms of spend capacity. We are also Huskies 3rd. largest market after Italy and the USA, so we are being royally screwed. That said a lot of the blame goes to those dingus' in parliament. Its the import duties and tarrifs that have a substantial impact on price.

ghte, the poms probably get screwed more than we do, and the prices are still cheaper over there. To me this smacks of profiteering. This is more an importer issue than a Government issue. FFS, the 125 is a simple two stroke motor. With all the advances in manufacturing technology they should be able to sell them for AUS < $4000 and still make money. If AUS $10,000 is something they need to make ends meet, they are history. It wont be long before the chinese sell decent bikes.

There really is no such thing as a free lunch. Things like "free health care" really aren't free. When things go throught the government, the government gets their cut + waste and graft.
The US is headed down this road at an ever increasing rate of speed.

US and Europe = large populations meaning better bargaining power.

Australia = small population, excessive importation taxes and freight charges, road legal fees just to warrant the legality to ride the vehicle on the road and high margins means we get ripped off.

I've kept my 96 WR360 for a while now and have been tempted by TE450's, KTM300exce and WR300 but looking at the sticker price.....l don't fancy lashing out 11-12K on a dirtbike that will get dropped and scratched!!! FFS, you could buy a 2nd hand R1/GSXR1k/CBR1k/ZX10 for that price!

Just looked at a Maloo ute the other day $75000 only in Australia what a joke

NAH! Bite your tongue. Once we get this health care thing set up and running... the "administration" is planning to enact a "cash for KTM's" program where everyone in the USA who currently pays NO federal income tax (47% of the population) can trade in their nasty, old, dirty KTM's and get a $4000.00 check toward the purchase of any new Husky. Rumor has it that Husky will call the program "Heros pay taxes so everyone can ride Huskys"...
