I was wondering if anybody knows where (or if) a tank exists for the TE511. I'm looking for something that would take the fuel capaity to a total of 18 - 20l (16l at a push). The TE 511 seems to me to make perfect sense for a rally bike; light, powerful and if the factory are to be believed then an easily handled beast. Stability at speed is the key with capability and weight (or lack of it) in the sand. Hopefully there is something out there otherwise I'll be back to the good old 450.
No but expanding the aux tank looks to be an EZ rout. Someone built a crazy big tank for rally (saw it on youtube) which was an entire subframe.
I just heard the same thing yesterday about the sub frame...I am going to be purchasing a new bike in the fall and am concerned about not being able to install a larger tank...the specs say 1.9 gal, the brochure says 2.5...is it 1.9 PLUS .6 reserve?
Its early days yet but a company in the UK is evaluating 449 for full Dakar conversion. If they decide to proceed then there will be the full range of rally parts available from them including tanks. Possibly more news to follow... Dave
This is the only thing stopping me getting a new one. I tried on a 511 for size and loved it. Until they make a bigger tank I'll have to keep my 08 450 As soon as you hear anything Dave let us know I would love a Dakar style 511 to ride around here at the Isa Kel
My TE511 holds 2.2 gallons. Will go 60 hard trail miles, 75 or so more open trail stuff and 90 DS miles.
If the new 511 has a method to carry 4 gallons of fuel it would probably be in my garage instead of the 630... For my rides (200 to 300 miles a day) and the limitations of re-fueling I need to carry it on the bike.
IMHO the 630 is better for that stuff anyway. geared much taller and it holds lots of oil which is good for multi day long mile rides.
I ride only desert right now with hopes of getting up to the mountains once I have a new ride...Being in the desert we use up a lot of fuel riding in he washes especially the last ride we took which was more than 1/2 sand wash. Embarrased to say I ran out on the way back only a few miles from the truck...I made it on reserve.....I'd love to not have to worry about that.
Safari Tanks are looking into it too for a Dakar competitor. The rear subframe tank was actually the BMW G450X built by Speedbrain, they stuck the 449 engine in the BMW they had already constructed.
