Has anybody put sliders on a 630 SMS that they recommend? I would like to get my baby armored before she has her first fall. Thanks!
I'm not sure if they are the same but SME makes a lot of stuff for the Husky's http://www.supermotoengineering.com/subsubcategory.php?subsubCatId=92
Thanks! I see they have the regular rear axle sliders and the axle block kind. Are the axle block ones worth it? They seem like they would be a bit of a pain to install.
I don't know , I haven't tried them. Some of the guys on SuperMotoJunkies.com could probably tell you. G/L
I have their axle sliders on my 510 but would prefer the block slider in the rear. The reason is that each time you take off or even loosen the rear wheel, you have to take off the axle sliders. That's a pain, particularly since you have to loctite them each time when reinstalling them. With the axle block slider it may be more of a pain to install the very first time but after that you never have to mess with them again. So if you seldom change tires or gearing or adjust the chain, the block sliders aren't of much value. But if you do all those things frequently, they're well worth it. I'm somewhere in between. (I think the biggest reason people get them is they are bigger so bling factor is higher.)
So I talked to the guys at supermoto engineering. He said he has block sliders in the rear but to make the front slider he needs a few measurements that require taking the front wheel off. I have never owned a supermoto before only street bikes so I'm not familiar with how it's done, and my dealer hasn't given me a manual yet. If any of you have the time to do the following, it will probably help all us 630ers get a product that we can use! They said: "If you can remove you front axle and measure the overall length and the inner diameter of the right and left side of the axle. Also the inside hole diameter on the axle nut. I can get make you up a front slider that will work." Or if my dealer gets me a copy of the manual I will give it a shot and let everyone know here.
Why bother taking the wheel off?? Just stick a tape measure through the rotor/spokes and get an eyeball. Just have him send you the all thread a little long. Then you can trim it to fit. Just cut with a hack saw, and clean up the threads with a file. measure ten times, cut once. And even then cut a little at a time. Or use a dowel and stick it through the axle. One end flush with the end and put a mark on the other end flush with the end of the axle. Then pull out the dowel and measure with a tape measure. If you dont have measuring calipers to get the diameters of the hole, use some bolts. find out which is the biggest bolt you can fit. Give him that
