Please read the first post of the baja ride. We have made some very minor changes, and updated the info.

    1) Caravan #1 leaves Georges shop at 9AM.
Caravan #2 leaves Mc Donalds, Calexico at 2 pm
First Beer at the Sandbar at El Cortez Hotel at 5pm.

These times are slightly earlier than original.

    2) We will have 20+ riders, and break it into 2 groups.
You know which group you fit with.
Slower group is gonna be takin it easy.
Faster group is NOT racing. They also will be takin it easy.
We will split it up morning of the ride, and all meet up for lunch.
George will lead one group, Mike will lead the other.

    3) We will have 2 chase trucks!

    4) We will be using radios. If you have one, bring it. We will use the weatherman/SCORE channel. Both chase trucks will have a radio, as well.

SO thats it for now. Looks like its gonna be a GREAT ride.
Note the earlier times, bring your radios, see ya soon.

Are you talking about FRS, VHS or CB radios.

For the baja 1000 most racers use:

    THIS: https://www.bajadesigns.com/NET/C-HELMET/HELMET RADIO SYSTEMS

    PLUS

THIS: A VHF handheld radio, stuffed in your back pack, with the above gear plugged in.

Most guys in baja swear by the ICOM V8000, and other ICOM radios. Others say Kenwood is the way to go.
I own both, and find lots of limitations. Here is more discussion on radios from the famous Weatherman, who also sells radios at PCI in Long Beach. He is not the cheapest guy, by any means. Your call on radios. Its like tires. Endless discussion. http://www.pciraceradios.com/WSWrapper.jsp?mypage=Baja1000.htm

For me a good radio has:
Pre programmed 10 or more frequencies.
Chargeable from my truck, or house, and has a GREAT battery.
    Has a long long antennae.
    Is tuff.
Digital tuning, like a car radio, meaning a knob to turn, or an up down button, not ONLY pre programmed stations. Race Radios DONT have this. They are intentionally impossible to tune.
Is Cheap! Im gonna loose it in a year anyway.

Try a search on TT for endless debate. Johnnyairtime has lots of info, tell him i sent ya. BajaRudy also has info and sells some stuff, again, tell him i sent ya. There are deals on the internet, once ya figure out what radio ya want. Prices are ALL OVER THE PLACE!

The BajaDesigns stuff looks exactly like the stuff we've got. We just hook `em up to FRS/GMRS radios. At least, I think they're called GMRS...all I know is I had to get a certificate in order to use them.

I like pushing the PTT button because it sounds really neat-o and I can pretend I'm a fighter pilot:)

There are several versions of this gear. different folks have different preferences.

Bottom line is the radios dont break, but the connections on the wires to the helmet, and the connections to the PTT (push to talk) do break if they arent beefy.
