Ive still got the stockers on mine. Im a new rider in central California and forsee riding mostly local forest and desert. Im too dam old to get into jumping and riding crazy anymore. Its been suggested to me by a very respected source that bark busters in my types of riding be avoided, too many broken wrists when going over the bars. Im kind of torn as to weather to take this advice or not. The stockers will be dead the first time I set it down. Suggestions?
Are the stock ones true Bark Busters or just Bug guards? If thay Don't have the metal brace (aluminum) I wood get them, like you said you are not jumping so it's not like your trying to shave weight to light'en your bike so you can make triple's. Mine have saved me countless times, and you don't wont to go down and brake you or your levers then be stuck twenty miles out.
Part 2 I don't do a lot of dessert riding a fast speeds so I'm not sure of the broken wrists count, but I see a lot of them on the Darker dikes. You could just go with a pair that don't have the shields on the front or take them off and just use the aluminum brace and mabee lower it a little.
Mate, had them for years and saved my wrists, hands on lots of tight ST. Don't gover the bars that often but have not had an issue in the few times I did. Suggest the risk reward ratio is very pro bark busters. PS think in terms of roost as well.
Roost is something I had not considered, although the stockers will help with that until they break off. The HDB are very nice looking as well. Ive currently got a horrible vibration in the throttle side and am trying to address that. My right hand is numb in less then ten minutes on the road. So I am considering the flexx bars as well right now. Too many decisions with one thing affecting the other! Thanks for the feedback
the closed loop bark busters broke a riding partners wrist so badly that ultimately his hand was amputated after about 3 days of trying to fix the injuries. The danger being that your wrist can go through the loop and get hung up. I know they are used all over, but this would be the danger. For me, I use the open end ones and they stop roost and most smaller branches. If you hit a big branch, you will know it anyway IMO.
I have heard this argument before and lots of us that ride in tight trees would have no hands at all long ago without full loop hand guards. In fact most are not even strong enough. I dont like to ride without them period.
I run Flexx bars which help a lot with vibration and there are inserts for inside the handlebars too. My wrists and elbows hurt just watching Motorsportz's videos haha. After time, riding offroad takes its toll on you and everything helps. Contact Cole Townsend @ Faast for more info on Flexx bars, the man is a walking encyclopedia for handlebars. Highway Dirt Bikes makes excellent bark busters, but the Cycra's are pretty awesome too and can be fitted to Flexx bars easily. Also, with Cycra's, the outer plastic slide edge can be replaced as well as the roost reflectors.
