Read some threads on charging/maintaining. Want to check in with you guys before hooking things up.

I have a CTEK with Motorcycle Mode and the stock Yuasa.

It appears using the pigtail with battery in bike is not so good.

So, remove battery from bike, hook up the alligator clamps, set to Motorcycle Mode and leave as is until next ride?

That is essentially what I do, but I use a Battery Tender

What is the issue with a battery tender and the battery still being hooked up? I do that over the winter.

There was discussion of the fuel pump actuating with battery in bike and charger connected. I guess there is one way to find out. :D

I wonder if the models without an ignition switch are affected? Without a keyed ignition switch does that mean the system is 'hot'?

Would rather just connect the pigtail and be done with it.

Mine doesn't have a keyed ignition, but I don't get the click some have mentioned.

Many of us keyless have the clicking and flooding feature if using a LI battery. I posted videos awhile ago. Just the nature of how companies wire the bikes. Even the new bikes have this "feature" from another post. A little lame that no vendors/manufacturers, geniuses have addressed it with a comment on why this occurs at least and a solution/fix, shy of battery removal to charge. I won't risk losing my house to a fire and remove the battery from the bike.

Interesting. I'm using the stock battery, so that may be why I don't have the issue.

Ah, okay. Now I remember this issue. I have no idea why it's not consistent. I don't remember my frame # offhand, but it (2013 TE310r) was later than those requiring the starter update.

Strange indeed. So the best way to avoid a potential issue is to remove the battery before charging. How about we disconnect the cables, shield the cable ends with rubber hose or vacuum caps then attach the clamps?

Hey John- did the speedo display ever come on? ...or did the headlight? I'm wondering if, since its a keyless system, that the ecu is detecting a high enough voltage (therefore wrongly thinks the bike is running because the alternator is putting out) and kicks the extraneous stuff on (speedo, lights, horn, sigs).

But it seems that the fuel pump relay is cycling on and off rapidly, as someone reported. And somebody else reported a "flooded" bike, meaning the injector was getting a signal [wow!].

The 449/511's are keyless too... wondering if anyone has seen a problem.

    weird.

love how the nuts on the battery terminals drop out of reach of the bolt when disconnected

battery freshened = .5 hp on the butt dyno today :D
