The family and I went to Baumgartner this past weekend. Scouted it out with the purposes of a possible NW Husqvarna gathering.. The FS campground is not a good idea (no motorcycles in it unless they are street legal) and especially not ATV's. The good news is there are lost of sites for group camping outside the campground and you can still go into the campground to use the Hot springs on sight for not cost.

Was by myself so no real exploration was in order but there appears to be plenty of riding but it seems you have to trailer to all the trails ... So it's not as conveniant as Bend ...

As far as offsite hotels.. the nearest town is featherville ID which is 11 miles away .

I will try to post some pictures but not having any luck so far..

Unless things have changed in the last few years, there is no need to trailer to the trails. If you cross the river and drive right past the FS campground (it'll be on your left) with the hot springs in it, there are tons of sites right on the river to the right. I have zillions of photos of trails in the area...surprise, surprise :D I have some of the camping areas, too, if you'd like me to dig them up and post them.

Here are the ones I have on PhotoBucket...

I think Baumgartner would be a great place for a gathering. I've been to a few gatherings there, myself, and have had a blast there! It's all camping, though. Featherville seems a lot farther than 11 miles away on the washboard road.

There used to be a small fee to use the hot springs...is that not the case anymore?

Me too.....well, maybe not a "zillions", but built up a few over the years.

Idaho Trail Machine Assoc had their 2008 State Ride at nearby Trinity Mtn, and 2009 State Ride at Baumgarter, camped in open area just West of actual campground.

I think Baumgartner is an excellent Idea! :) There are sooooo many trails too. Way too hard for me, to, super easy for me. You can ride into Atlanta for a burger on all trails. Camping is plentiful as well.
Another thing we did was to Dual Sport ride into Sun Valley from Baumgartner.

    Cool Idea Kevin

I have been there. And Oh Yes it is a great place to ride and camp. All kinds of wild life to enjoy plus the mountains and creeks are so cool. I loove the rid3e from the Fairfield side of the mountain up to Iron MTN. Great single track. If you come this way, I would lovet o come and meet ya all.

Nice ride over there, but better pack a lunch now. Last I heard there wasn't anywhere to eat or get a beer something cold to drink at Altanta anymore.

Think one of my favorite trails in the area is Bremner Trail. Head south out of Barumgartner up Kelly Creek/Iron Mtn and it drops down the back side toward S. Fork of Lime Creek. It's only a short 6-7 mile section, but just a fun quicker pace trail.

FYI: When riding a lot of the more advanced trail in the area, it helps to have lower gearing than you think you'll need and a really good skid plate.

Looks like a great place to me too. Is this the place East of Boise that was talked about a month or so ago?
    I'm ready.
