I had a small wreck and snapped of a radiator shroud and bent my shift lever a little bit. Now it doesnt want to shift. It goes up fine but when you try to shift back down it just moves but doesnt click or anything. I can get it to shift down if i keep trying but takes forever. I really dont want to do this cause just got it but all back together and done and dont like splitting cases:( Any other ideas? And if anyone has any radiator shrouds let me know. I think they are the same as the 2 stroke models from 91-94 and even some 360 shrouds and stuff are the same. they look like this https://www.dcvmx.com/xcart/product.php?productid=19539&cat=316&page=1 i would buy new ones but dont have that in my budget yet. Thanks

have you tied rocking it back and forth while you try the shifter?

No I havent...The more i think about it I think its the shifting mechanism the grabs the shift drum. It feels like its just not grabbing anything. If it was the shift forks it would at least click or have some resistance I would think anyway. Ill probably pull of the clutch cover and check that. Ill try rocking it back and forth too see if it will do anything also.

when you shift you are engaging dogs into slots in the gears, if they don't line up you get a no shift feel, when you load the shifter and you rock it they have an opportunity to align and engage, so slight pressure on the shifter and rock it gently back and forth

rocking it does nothing. It does not want to shift at all. Every once in a while its like it just grabs and shifts and then wont do it again.

ok got it pulled apart today and my shift selector star thing on the end of the shift drum broke! One of the little teeth snapped off probably from the shifter being slammed up. Gonna have to figure out how to get it off. My screw started to strip and is a smallallen head.

    yes

That screw should have locktite on it so it would be a good idea to get the screw hot to melt it. A small brazing tip would be my choice but a propane torch would work.
