Biga Pit Ride -- Crossing the TC hiway

This ride was with my good friend Sarge again. About the same area as the Lake Malubog ride as we crossed the Trans-Central Hiway again. Sort of just a general purpose ride to help with overall knowledge for traveling purposes ... The roads we are riding are pretty open and can seen on a map I think, but its so many of them branching off, its very easy to get turned around in those 2k tall hills and valleys.

I guess this is an open pit copper mine as I saw the name Carmen Copper Mine out there somewhere.

My 010 TC250 ... HRs 200 ... Previous owner had ~50 ... I'm pushing 300 and that's the number I was wanting to see before engine work... Rides across the island like this one in 4th-5th gears roll the hrs on it. Little weird on the cafe as you never see much about 250... Always a 310 or 449 type. I'll continue on mine another ~365 days I'm guessing. They are just too cool a bike to try to replace.






We'll have to ride this ridge line out the next time we are over that way. Just another thread waiting to happen.

Along the way, we hit the bottom of valley and did some river running... Canyon walls were almost vertical...

You can tell the sun is wrong for my camera as the pic is all shiny or something but i wanted to show because during a rain, those rock faces are probably gonna turn into a small web of water falls ...

Downtown in the mountains. Always a Fiesta somewhere here... I really like it when we can stop over and a bite to eat and drink. If I knew the language, it would be ~100x better over the good times now.

Here's a small video of some dump trucks at the bottom of the valley moving dirt. You get a feel of how steep the canyons walls are.

Thanks and these type rides thru the mountains and valleys are always cool with many unknowns happening along the way to the destination. The valleys are safer riding than the ridge lines I think but the water can give wheel bearings a shorter life span.

I was looking for a Tarzan tree out there and this was the closest one I found. Its really a huge tree just looks smaller on film.


That hill on the back side of the water is climbable but "ya gotta want it" to make it to the top.

I also finally got a shot of one of the big lizards here also on my cam.

Looks like a mini alligator. Cool!

I got this shot also just a day or so after the Biga pit shot ... Probably just a coincidence, these shots came right after the earthquake.
You can see their funky running style here... Its like 2 feet off and 2 feet on the ground when running. But they are fast and can motor straight up a rocky dirt wall.

Are they some type of monitor?

I think so ... But not sure ... This guy caught one a couple yrs back and I got a pic of it. These are probably about the only varmint in the hills other than a few snakes.

Holy crap! That's a trophy pic right there. I wouldn't want to take one of those on riding.

That guy was happy to have that dinner(?). I rarely see them and getting 2 of them in 2 days on the cam was really weird. Really nothing up in these mountains to harm a person other than landslides or something like that. Maybe falling coconuts ... And gotta watch the girls ... They can be a life changer for some, even if only for a few days.

Rugged and well-defined mountains and ridge-lines ... 3,000' is the tallest mountain on Cebu and its in that area ... Because they are small at the base also, sometimes you can get right up to the edge of these big hills and get a very good view up its sides.

Great pics! Looks like a really fun place to ride. Curious if you have any problems with police and not having a license plate on the main roads? My experience was they they just let us (foreigners) do whatever we wanted within reason of course, the police were asking me to do wheelies at some points in towns but I noticed a ton of locals getting pulled over randomly everywhere.

I have ~~zero issues here on my MX racer bikes on the streets and it will be like that about every where except in the major cities such as Cebu City. Even there it is tolerated to some degree. You just have to learn to blend in with everyone else around you.

The local cops at times set up alot of check points, ESP at election times to help stop the flow of arms around or whatever reason they deem necessary... Foreigners usually get a free pass BUT not always ... If you are a city dweller and do not mess in well with the community, you are gonna have issues quite possibility. Easy solution -> Move to a less populated area or learn to blend in.

I'm usually out in the mountains and providences, so only grassroots action out there and foreigners are totally welcome. Does not seem like many foreigners are out in the providences' really but me ..

Here is another angle on what is happening ... Bike riding\racing is part of the political system here. Politicians here support local MX races as a means to get votes. Bikes here are in the system. . Any rider on a big bike, has that going for them on the roads.

Mayor of the largest city on the island was campaigning in the mountains at this small BRGY race last yr. Any bike racing here is a big deal for the local economy and entertainment for the people and who ever is sponsoring it gets good advertisement and maybe votes

Main roads? There is a main road that circles Cebu and most other islands. Then for Cebu, there is 3-4 main roads that cross it, east to west. It is possible for any of the towns or villages along the way to have a check point set up but very unlikely you will be hasseled any unless inside the major populated places. Just tell them your story and all will be well usually. If not, text me ... I'll get to the bottom of it.
