Hey everyone, I can't help but tell everyone the news that I found out today........my 2009 AMA Pro Motocross License is in the mail !! I had sent in the information and material about 3-4 weeks ago and just found out today that I got accepted. I got an e-mail from AMA Pro Racing and MX Sports congratulating me on achieving my Pro License and stating "We look forward to seeing you at a National soon". I honestly never thought in a million years I could actually call myself a Professional Motocross Racer.....but I guess the saying is true about never giving up on a dream. As you all know, most Pro MX racers nowadays are late teens and early 20's so each year that went by I thought my chances were getting slimmer and slimmer and at 25 years old I finally got it! I will be the first to say that do I have a chance at all in even qualifying for the motos........well maybe not....BUT I will be able to say that I raced as a Professional Motocross Racer. After attending several National rounds the past couple years, I am pretty confident that I won't be the slowest guy on the track but could very likely be too slow to qualify. Either way and needless to say, I AM PUMPED! I have been talking with the people at Husqvarna and Hall's hoping to get my TC 450 eligible to race....I am more than looking forward to trying to qualify one of these things.....that might get some attention for Husqvarna I would think. Anway, I could ramble on and on about odds and ends about this but thought I would share! Blake Young
Excellent Blake. I kinda suc at moto as big jumps scare me but some tracks are super fun. Best of luck this season.
I'm stoked for ya. Don't let your age "throw you", physically your still right there. And the extra experience can be a benefit..... you may recognize a different line the "followers" just cant see. A good friend of mine / co-racer, wanted us both to apply for our licenses. He did, I didn't. He went on to experience pro mx, I didn't. Guess who regrets it? Keep us posted. Dave
Congrats, I'd be content to have the conditioning to ride one half a race at the pace you guys ride. Oh yeah, some extra talent would be nice too.
I'm super pumped for you Blake! Keep us informed on how things go with getting AMA approval to run a husky in a national. How's about the Colorado national? Only night race on the schedule, lots of media.
Fantastic a national Pro MX number,!!! ,not to be a killjoy but is the machine homologated for AMA pro MX events ie nationals now? That is what Hall's is doing right? Great stuff best of luck!!!
Congratulations Great news Blake, I know you have been working really hard. As far as age goes just consider yourself older and wiser. rofessor: Please let us know which ones you will be going to. Good Luck!
Excellent. Congrats! It's gotta feel good. Yeah don't let your age discourage you. John Dowd didn't start racing until late in his teens. Go get 'em!
Yes, that is what I'm talking about when I say that Hall's (Jay) and Husqvarna (Scot) are woking with MX Sports right now to hopefully get this TC 450 eligible to race (homoglation stuff). Clay, I would LOVE to do the Colorado round BUT I would really like my first National be at a place I have ridden before so at least something would be familiar to me (Red Bud will be my first since I have taught several Tony D. schools up there). I hope to attend Red Bud, Millville, and Steel City....that is of course if everything isn't already filled. The one good thing, all it is going to take is one super fast lap to get me into the show since qualifying is done based on timed practice sessions. Anyway, thanks for all the kind words everybody, I really do appreciate it! Hopefully we can put a Husky IN THE SHOW! Blake Young
Congratulations Blake, looking forward to hearing more about your pro racing career, hopefully on a Husky
Ya, that makes sense. I would do the same. Looks like I might be going to the Red Bud national this year. So what number did you get?
kind of, but not really... They don't really scare me, but there's a big difference between getting hurt and laying up and out of school for 2 weeks and having dad foot the doctor's bill and laying out of work for 2 weeks and having to pay my own doctor's bill..."wouldn't be prudent...", "not gonna do it..." (wave hand vertically, then horizontally). Staying out of school was just the alternative to not trying the jump and staying in school....hmmmmm...let me think....go big and stay out for 2 weeks w/mom waiting on me hand & foot or just take it easy and still have to go to school on Monday...being laid up & out of school was not motivation to take it easy on the track, mouths to feed at home is. Unless I go to the track one day and there is a check for $100,000 waiting for me at the finish line, my riding style remians a reflection of my ability to pay for it. Flat is where it's at Go fast! Stay low! Still gotta go big once in a while just to get it out of the system though...
