my dad and I both have TR650 Stradas, he replaced his wheel bearings in the rear after they failed, and after putting the bike back together, it started acting up. Now, the bike starts when in neutral, idles with the kick stand up or down, but immediately dies when the bike goes into gear no matter what the orientation of the kickstand is. Also to add onto this, the check engine light comes on when the kickstand is up, but when put down, the light turns off. Any insight on this occurrence would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'd put all my money on the kickstand safety switch.
The bike will run in neutral no matter where the kickstand is, but may throw fault codes if something is funny with the electrical.
The bike will not run in gear if it thinks the kickstand is down. My bet is that there's either a short or the switch is stuck in the down position regardless of where the stand actually is.

I believe it was somewhere on this forum that a user posted that a 10A fuse slots right into the sidestand switch and essentially eliminates its use. Could help in your case.

Either way, that's likely where your problem is.

Thanks a whole lot, I appreciate the response. I'm going to relay the message over to him and see if this will take care of it.

If you take kickstand off please be careful with the bolt . It is a little odd and easy to damage...very easy. Dont ask me how i know..
