Well i got my bike this past thursday. I came from the dealer, took it off the truck and stuck it in the garage. 48 hours later i find this. As you can see the bike still brand new. No oil on the truck bed from the 3 hour drive, the bike was not on the side stand. So it appears it only happens while is leaning. I clean the oil and i will check again tomorrow. I feel like calling the dealer and asking for a complete new bike. If this is happening now, what else is coming down the line. Thanks for the help.
Sorry forget to add that part. It looks like the shaft for the front sprocket as you can see on the second picture.
I'd call them and see if they will fix it at your first FREE OIL CHANGE at 75 miles. At least you get something for you 3 hour drive....maybe a t-shirt thrown in too....for the 3 hour trip back. It's a pain but not a dealer error, although it is hard to imagine it didn't happen at the dealer if it was on the kickstand. Give them a second chance maybe. Good luck
I have email them, i'll see what they say. Well i think the bike was on the crate. The whole 3 hours on my truck standing straight not one drop of oil. I really was not planing on going back for anything. I was going to do all my maintenance. Now i am a bit concern, my friend kept telling me to get Jap bike, i said no way.
From the photo it appears your shift lever has made contact with the chain??? How many hours of use show on your dash? Foot pegs look dirty for no miles?? how tight is the chain and has it been oiled?
I am away from my place, i will look at the hours tomorrow. The dealer did ride the bike around the lot before i took it. I think that's just grease from the chain being thrown around. The chain looks greased as if new as you can see, and yes the pegs are both the same. I also notice two more bikes on the floor inside the store in the same condition.
http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/oil-leak-on-sprocket.3298/ I found this old thread. Is it relevant. Is it that simple of a fix?
Mine did exactly the same thing. Got it home and it was dropping oil out of the countershaft seal. Dealer fixed it up no dramas.
Had a (very slight) leak after the first service. Took it back and they found that the lad who´d filled in the oil had only done other makes previously and expected the Husky to take a lot more oil. He overfilled the sump and the excess was being pushed out. They syphoned off a small amount of oil and the inspection glass showed the correct height. Has not lost a drop since (but had to clean up the mess on the case).
I did read about that. Since i haven't even rode the bike is kind of hard to see if is over serviced. The bike has to be hot to actually get a correct reading. I am leaving for a vacation for a while and wont know more till i come back. I hope is just that.
Well the bike has been at the shop for 2 weeks. I got an email that they replaced the parts and it still leaks. I was told he was going to use two o-rings and that might stop it.
ummm, no, that probably won't fix it... You might want to have them try the film trick, or try it yourself, to get the crud out from between the shaft and shaft seal. Worst case, you may need a new countershaft, if there's surface imperfections in the seal area. I've heard of one guy who had some lathe chatter marks in that area and replacing the shaft fixed it, no cost to him.
That's what I was thinking. Oh well I'll see what the tech says after the two o ring fix. Seems like putting a band aid instead of surgery. It looks like I won't get to ride the bike this year at all.
The 2-o-ring thing is a load of BS. I'd work on that dealer until they start replacing parts under warranty until the leak is cleared up. It won't cost them a dime. I had some leakage issues with mine and Hall's hooked me right up. They just kept replacing stuff (at no cost to me) until the leaks were gone; no questions asked.
I had an oil leak around the shifter shaft and the dealer replaced the seal under warranty. There are good dealers out there, sounds like you're getting the run around because they don't want to front the money to fix it correctly, or they are still troubleshooting. Obviously speculation on my part.
Well I guess they are on the troubleshooting part per se. I know he order the two o rings that go in that area (a seal and o ring), he said he replaced both and it still leaks and that he is going to try another o ring. Not much I can do since this is the closest dealer to me, the next one is 3 hours One way, the current one is about 1.5 one way. They are a well know dealer and great guy by the way, I am in no fault saying is his fault or he is trying to shaft me (pun). I just worried, this is the reason I brought the bike in to the dealer to get fix instead of tackling the issue myself, I had a feeling it was not going to be as simple as just swapping the seals. Please excuse spelling and grammar I'm on my phone and also ESL.
The nearest dealer to me is 450 miles away. They just ship me parts and I do the wrenching. Just saying you aren't totally out of luck if your closest dealer starts giving you the runaround.
