Bust my key on the weekend Managed to get a blank cut at the local locksmith. Does anyone know if it's possible to place the'newly cut key into the Husqvarna key fob containing the RFID Proximity ID Token Tag?? Has anyone taken the plastic section apart??
And I wouldn't be game enough to try for fear of damaging the chip inside. AFAIK, it's a solidly casted/ molded fob as it doesn't have a battery. Meaning the OEM key head will have a certain shape that the fob is molded around with a different shape to any aftermarket key. Looks like the most logical fix would be the ignition-lock bypass. This way the broken key can be used for the ID/ EWS functions, the $5 key used on the ignition lock. Or try to get a new factory key...and Good Luck on that score!!
You would need to cut the chip out of the old key. There are new blanks that have a little compartment for the chip. There is good info at ADV on what type of key you need etc, buried deep within the stupid questions thread. Doing the remote rfid location might be the way to go. If you did the pod mod, you can fasten the replacement antenna and broken key in the airbox, out of the way, and use a standard key blank as Glitch suggests. A new key can be ordered from Husky. If you don't have a local dealer, my parts guy might be able to help. It took me a half year, but then, ktm and husky were still working out the issues. The key machine is up and running so it should be no issue. It will cost about $80 usd plus shipping, and may take awhile if they even decide to help you (being out of country the issue). You need to prove ownership with vin #'s ID etc. Then the dealer emails that info to a special dept at husky/ktm. My new key worked without programming it for my bike. Let me know, and I can swing by the parts dept and ask if they will do it for you, etc.
@glitch you're right it's probably not a good idea to go digging around the old plastic looking for the tag. It appears that the RFID tag is normally moulded into the plastic section and would be almost impossible to remove without damage. (Refer ford key cut away, presuming the Husky key would be similar). I understand the ECU stores a total of 10 key codes, so may end up ordering one from the U.S and wait for that. I did try the aftermarket key and simply held the broken OEM key in close proximity to the antenna ring on start up and then stuck the broken key in my pocket once it started and it ran without EWS error, so may also do that in future. I certainly don't want to be the guinea pig who stuffs up the tag by butchering the plastic moulded section, so will wait until some electronic guru educates me exactly how to read and reproduce the RFID tag.....so until then I will be using both keys to start my extremely rare, desirable, one-of-a-kind exclusive motorcycle.
Which is exactly what the ignition-ID bypass does for you....permanently! Starting post #67, then scroll down http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/pottering-around.39580/page-4 At least thus far, the TR/Nuda keys have proven un-clonable in the US/EU/AUS/NZ etc. due to the chip used in them.
Might be worth contacting nv motorcycles in morrinsville as I think I read in kiwi rider that they had bought the moss replacement tool/programe which might be able to sort out the key.
or try these guys http://shop.italhusky.com/en/products/2013 and yes Nick will be able to code key to dash/ECU, he has an OSS system
Fix the OEM Chipped Key securely inside the headlight as close to the Ignition Barrel as you can get it. Try to start the bike with the new key, if it starts, ride it !!
Tried...and failed. The key fob/chip has to be within 1/4 inch of the pickup-ring. And centered at that, not along the outer perimeter of the antenna. The reason I went the "replacement antenna" route, as per link above.
The chip key inside headlight method has worked for some and not others, hence my saying 'if it starts' :-) Typical of this bike, every single one appears to be different in some way or another.
