Nah, try not to talk her up much, I'm easily mis-understood as I've found out. I do have a tip though, buy it now and speed up the paperwork! (she may own it when its done though!)

You are spot on and are correct. Though I believe none of these bikes should be sold in an "un-rideable" condition. We have pretty strict emissions and import laws here also but Aussie dealers scrap the emissions stuff before sale and retune the motors to run how they should. I don't think they don't believe in climate change, its just they sell a product in a state that it is designed to run like it was designed to.

Please tell me again how big a turd the Beta is. Third overall, someone need to tell Nick he is riding a lesser bike.

I think it's a little tougher with the fuel injection bikes as some require a reflash, updated ECU that only dealers can do or a $400 tuner. And sometimes you will not be lucky enough to have a dealership that has the proper equipment and knowledge. I'm not too keen on the new WR450F - but they are not plated from factory so aren't nearly as restricted - at least on MY 2004 WR450F - I just removed a grey wire and changed the main pilot jet (though I don't think I really had to)... Fuel injection certainly has their benefits - but more difficult for the user to 'tinker' with , without sinking another 300-400 for a tuner. Where as carbs, you buy jets for less then $40 and can work on it yourself pretty easily.

It is what it is - if you want full potential from factory - TXC is way to go. I just hope they make a Baja Designs kit for it

You are right. I just don't think it's good enough to sell a product that doesn't work properly. How many posts are on here saying "my 449/310/250 etc won't run right/flames out/runs hot etc." often due to lack of knowledge/equipment from the dealer that didn't set it up as it was meant to run.

It'd be nice if all brands, not just Husky, sold Fuel Injection with some kind of tuner for it. Since most riders will almost always re-jet carb bikes - there's no reason to think that will be the same with Fuel Injection. Especially on the bikes that are choked up to meet emissions - people are going to want to uncork for full power then realize that they need to change the fuel/air mixture among other things. It just asking for un-needed headaches imo.

European Emission Standards as well as CARB have written specific laws against this on street licensed vehicles. I think the EES wants to do away with motorcycles all together -

And we just find ways to work around them so our bikes are not dangerous to ride. It is a vicious circle of stupidness.

I find it interesting that those of us who like these bikes are being put in a position to justify why we like them on a forum dedicated to the brand. If you don't like it, don't wanna mess with it, then don't get one.

This level of wankerdom is more suitable for that other site that uses a pseudonym for four stroke discussions.

There is some truth to this, to a point.

For the record, I first rode a TE449 Feb 2011 at Randsburg, and thought the efi worked far better than the previous 450s with efi. Thought the same regarding road worthyness.

Brian Wilson from TT was there too, and he told me he really liked that bike - because of the way the suspension worked for him. In case anyone does not know, he seemed to ride fairly well, at least compared to my floundering in the desert. On the other hand most 5 year olds ride better than I do...so take that for what it's worth.

My personal choice was to stick to my 2006 TE250, which fit my needs since I bought it.

Yes it seems a very polarizing bike. Of those that actually own one almost all seem really happy with them. Those that have not and hate BMW hate the bike. Whatever, we know they are great bikes and are out enjoying them. I get told all the time how it is not as good as the last generation but having owned a very good 08 TXC450 I have to disagree. Just going to be happy riding mine.

I think it's more clarification then justification. People seem to over-exaggerate things that they are fans of. While there is mostly truth, it's good to know the aspects that maybe not so amazing so they can be improved or knowledge for others before too late.

No bikes are perfect. After reading some posts here though apparently the 511 is a perfect bike. I love the way my TE250 handles (sorry I know this is a TE449 discussion!) but it has it's issues with power delivery / smoothness - even after Tuners, and dealership 3 hours away was clueless about ECU/reflashing/mapping..
