I'm doing everything I can to join the "Trip to the Tip" between Christmas and New Years. Of the many things that need to be done to my bike ('09 TE310) one of them is figuring out how to stretch the gas tank. I have virtually no need for a big tank on a normal basis, so buying an IMS tank for this one event is not a luxury I can afford. Is there one of the Cafe Husky faithful who could loan me your big tank for this ride thru Baja? I'd need it the week before Christmas, and unfortunately, I couldn't ship it back to you until on or after Jan 8th. Pretty please with Baja silt on top???
Here is a plan "b" for you if you don't find a tank,Get a couple of these and figure out a safe way to carry them. Empty them as soon as you can into your tank. http://www.rei.com/product/783963?cm_mmc=cse_froogle-_-datafeed-_-product-_-783963&mr:trackingCode=B051DD84-078C-DE11-B4D4-0019B9C043EB&mr:referralID=NA I'd keep looking for a tank in the meantime.
...Or what they did on the baja trip I went on was to strap bleach bottles full of gas to the waist/backpack. Sounds like a bigger tank would be a nicer solution though.
Even with big tank will still have to carry fuel in many long sections. Main thing in Baja is you never know what to expect. Later george
I have a 4gal Clarke tank you can use. I switched over to the IMS so I could use the stock tank shrouds. Works perfectly, you'll just need to supply a petcock and vent tube for the cap. I'm riding in Baja with you so let me know what you want to do. Thanks. Rich
Ah, didn't notice the flavor bike. Sorry. FWIW, I'm hooking up this setup below (not my bike) Pelican 1400 case (have the Pro Moto Billet rack) for my tools and other items, to keep them off my back. Primus 1.5L bottles (bigger than the standard MSR bottles, for total of 3L of gas. http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___72305 The fuel bottle holder straps are from Cabella's, called Quick Fists. http://www.cabelas.com/p-0032498521713a.shtml
