We (Motosportz) sell a good amount of goods to our friends in Canada. I have orders sitting here as there is some sort of strike at Canadian postal. Anyone know the details, when this is going to end or anything? Thanks.
There's was suppose to be back work legislation passed today, I think, can't recall exactly. But should be over soon. Edit. Checked the news & it looks positive, small chance political opponents will try to delay legislation.
Yep, we're in the same situation. Got stuff sitting here waiting to ship up north. Don't want to have to go UPS if it can be avoided. Hope it gets cleared up soon.
Have you tried FedEx? - they fairly reasonable and much better than UPS. The postal workers strike will be a while longer, the opposition party being more 'socialistic' will want to review the legislation thoroughly before parliament forces the workers back to work - id say about another week to 10 days. Sorry about the BS up here.
Don't get me started about that. Man that sucks big. Kelly...Should be better in a couple days. I'll PM you when it's resolved OK.
MP's sat through the night and will continue until back to work order is passed. They do have a majority so it will pass. But they created a problem as if workers are legislated back to work their settlement will be less than what was offered by Can. Post. Basicly they want to offer new employees less than they get now and they want to change pensions from defined benefit to defined contribution. Also the workers are not on strike, they were locked out. Basicly the government is not obeying the law. Heil Harper!
This is why I get all my stuff shipped to a US address, then drive down and pick it up myself. Cheaper shipping, no brokerage fees... Of course, I'm not far from the border either... and as soon as you cross that magical line, the price of gas drops by over 1/3...
I just sent an envelope of information from Salem OR to Vancouver BC and it cost $40 through FedEx. I could have put the 8 pages of paper in a box and saved $10 but it would have 7 days longer to get there. Not cheap.
Not to get into it, but this isn't exactly true. Many of the workers didn't want to strike, but the ego-headed union leaders forced rolling strikes thru-out the system. The package offered by CP was reasonable and the union leaders kept refusing, so they got locked out. Don't blame Harper, or CP, or most of the workers. The union leaders are the ones that bear the blame in this one. The gov't got involved because the mail is deemed an essential service. It's really harming a lot of small companies that rely on the mail for cheques etc. We have an entire month of payments coming to us that are stuck in the mail somewhere. For those Canadians that are tired of paying 'brokerage' and other phony fees to FEDUP and UPS, don't pay them. It's illegal for them to charge them if they didn't quote them up front. - It's a clear and blatant violation of fraud laws. They get pissy when you remind them of that & if you stand your ground, they'll back down. Due to backlash, some US shippers, such as TireRack, are getting wise and forcing the couriers to smarten up and come clean up front with their charges & fees.
