Carb settings for 86 500xc?

I just purchased an '86 500xc in pretty sad shape. Had to rebuild the shock and forks. Previous owners played with the carb and I'd like to know how to set it back to stock settings. (it has the Mikuni 40mm roundslide)
Anyone know what those are?

I'm near sea level, and the bike will start after 5-10 hard kicks, but only idles for 5-10 seconds, then dies. Has new ignition system, and I haven't checked to see if the timing is OK. Haven't checked compression yet, but it seems OK since it starts. I checked that the float bowl is filling properly, and it does have pretty good spark.

Any knowledge is appreciated.

Also, anyone have the manual? The link on this site for the 85-87 2T workshop manual is broken.

Should be a spec in the Vintage Tech. section for factory specs. I haven't searched for specs on a 86 but have for 84, hopefully something on there for yours. If it will stay running by raising idle with screw or with throttle the pilot jet is too small, assuming everything mechanical is good in carb. Scott

Vintage Husqvarna 1981 thru 1988 Tech Data, page 105 you will find all the specs on your bike and carb!

First page, mid way down on Vintage Tech section, sorry for not having a direct link, not that computer savvy.

Thanks!

It looks like my compression is pretty low... I'll have to redo the top end and go from there.

Hi again... I went ahead and redid the top end. Compression was about 80. Now I have another issue... Trying to start the bike, and it backfires, does not start. There are two screws on the Mikuni 40mm RS, the one on the left I understand is the air screw, and the spec sheet says 1.5 turns from bottom. What is the one on the right for, and where do I set it?
