Guys I am getting concerned. The carburated Huskies must all be running brilliantly. There has not been a thread posted for ages. On the EFI side is it the newness of product and a big learning curve or are there set up and subsequent reliability issues. I ask this as I will keep my 06 TE 450 but want to get a real dual purpose so a late 610 appeals and that will have efi. It seems from reports that there are all sorts of things that can go wrong. What is the consensus out there.
I have an 08 610 with 4000 miles with zero problems, runs great. Put about 120 miles on it the other day and kept thinking how good it runs. I had just washed it and did about 90 miles on the pavement and on the way home decided I needed to make a run thru the National forest, we just had 3" of rain the day before, needless to say the bike looked much worse when I got home than it did before I left. I love this bike. The only gripes I have is the headlight and I need the forks revalved. I'm trying to save up for a light, a revalve on the forks and a power up kit. Oh and a power commander with auto tune, a set of SM rims and tires with a cush hub in the rear and a million dollars and I'll be a very happy man. Well maybe I need a TC 250 to go along with the 610 they look sweet! I need to stop now I think.
Once you become familiar with how the system works and what parameters change what operating characteristics - a mechanical carb is like trimming fingernails with a sharpened stone. That aside - there are more components that will leave you walking than in a carb'd system. I have accepted the liability for the outstanding fuctionality it provides. These same issues came up when everything started to change to water cooling. My opinion only. MAT
Thanks for your view guys. What concerns me is that efi is not new to bikes only relatively new to dirt bikes. I just sense a lot of initiation/set up issues and then ongoing fine tuning issues.
A small number of people have had some issues with the EFI. Others needed some adjustment. Others still have zero issues and the bikes run perfect. Two down sides IMHO are it seems for some reason the bike with EFI make noticeably less power. If this is the EFI or not I don't know, other parameters could be at play here. The single biggest issue is the ridiculous cost of a fuel pump should it go bad. Husky needs to address this and sell just the pump unit check and in stock. This would eliminate 75% of the fear of an EFI bike IMHO.
efi is relatively new to Husqvarna. It's not like they can pull an efi system off of one of their road bikes as a starting point. Compared to 6 months ago there are more ibeat and power commander with autotune options. All that is left is a more affordable fuel pump if/when they have issues - gravity works really well for bikes with carbs.
"it seems for some reason the bike with EFI make noticeably less power" From the dyno tests that I researched - this is not true for the 501cc twin cam motors. I don't know about the rest. I do know I can reel in a 08 450cc carb'd husky (TXC?) with a rider that has a 60+ lbs advantage on me - and I don't present a very aerodynamic profile - LOL. Not very scientific but I don't think I can blame the bike for much. MAT
