I saw some Day 1 Catalina GP coverage. It said a guy on an '85 Husky 500 was a crowd pleaser. Zip Ty Husky Team or any others racing Pro Race tomorrow?
Joey Lane raced Tecate on his very nicely set up 06 510 on saturday and said he was immediately heading to Catalina for sundays races, but I never asked what bike he had ride out there on the island. the entire ZipTy crew were in Tecate, Ty,Bobby,Cory,Nick, Jefferson, Foster as well as Revelle on his own representing. I dont know if they (ZipTy) had anything going out there today.
I've been hoping someone could give some first hand account of how it went. You don't even need to mention how you did. Weather ok?

Dana Brown was on hand to document the event with his film crew. The Catalina GP will be part of his next film, On Any Sunday III.
There was a light rain Saturday before my race. It was cool, about 65. Overcast. Weather could not have been more perfect. You noticed that I didn't mention it eh? Hmmm. Let me start by saying it was my first race, EVER. And the lowest class to enter was B, AND Iwas on the biggest bike there by far. I've never really hit a jump before. Everybody was talking about how it was 'just a trail ride' and to take it easy and yada yada yada. Then I'm sitting at the line and there are a bunch of pro photographers running around filming like 4 different guys next to me. One of whom is the editor for dirt rider mag. Then a bunch of guys start walking out stomping down dirt clods trying to get better traction for the launch. So I was kind of FREAKING OUT I survived the first turn, and a lot of guys didn't. after that maybe 5 guys just BLEW by me. But then I noticed I was holding my own and sticking with the guy in front of me. I even actually passed a couple guys. Holy crap I might actually be able to do this. Then I realized I was not yet through the first lap, and I was freaking TIRED. And so then I crashed. (3x) and was REALLY tired. Then I bounced wildly out of a triple, and kinda sorta flew into the crowd. Yep, I was almost "that guy" that killed the Catalina GP forever by killing a spectator. Fortunately they ran out of the way quickly though In the end, there were two guys on my butt and one guy passed me at the very last bit, because I sort of gave up and didn't want to crash. I pulled in and it seemed like there were a lot of guys after me, but I can't believe I beat **all** of the LWT bikes. I ended up 50 out of 51. (with maybe 7-8 DNF's) But I really think my transponder may have missed a lap. OTOH, beating one guy out of the last two would be right... so I really dunno what to think. But I think I gotta try this racing thing again to find out Bottom line though is that I think in all honesty it was one of the best days of my life. Absolutely fantastic. If they do it again, everyone should sell their children or do whatever it takes to go. The spectator who helped me back on track was an ADV'er who saw one of the stickers on my bike and he posted up this AWESOME picture of me: So how cool is that!?
Wow!! That is the coolest thing ever, Xymotic!! Way to go! Congrats on surviving your first race...and a totally cool race, too! And hey, at least you beat someone...the only reason I wasn't dead last in my first enduro is because Eric was riding behind me on purpose. Seriously...we were the last 2 riders to cross the finish So, you think you kinda like this racing thing, eh? Be prepared to sell your soul for it Actually, the only thing you need to do is get a smaller bike and then the sky's the limit Congrats again, and thanks for posting up the cool photo! Can you get a high res copy of it to me somehow? Oh, and get yer elbows up WoodsChick
hehe, don't EVEN talk to me about form! LOL. My arms are JELLO two days later. I can't get my arms up to eat a bowl of cereal. Yeah, I might be totally screwed with this motorcycling thing. lookie what I bought the other day: http://www.govliquidation.com/auction/view?auctionId=3821816 How many 250's you think I can fit in there?
xymotic! fantastic,. way to keep it together. Never let em get to you, just enjoy your ride and keep relaxed and safe! Good stuff, you just participated in a historic motorcycling event!!! Good on ya! RN
Well done Xymotic ... I know a noob guy in Oregon who did the whole OMRA XC season on a DRZ400...weighs as much as a 610 and has much worse suspension and power. He ended up second for the year. Yes, you should do more races!!! I did enough handlebar banging as a young motocrosser. If you want to pass me now, just give me a second to get out of the way. This is the old guys racing method. Keep a steady pace and stay out of trouble. It is still big fun.
WhoooHooo! I moved up a position! Can somebody please help me figure out the results though? http://www.tracksideonlineresults.c.../laptimes.asp?s=&c=965&pc=965&e=211&rn=2&rt=M I'm aaron Lynch, #50 I swear I did 5 laps. The guy behind me was a minute a lap faster than me. Are these transponders that flakey? What's with the 2 minute first lap? The booth was behind the start and we had to do a full lap to get there. Why come my first lap is 5 min but the fourth is almost 13 and is tagged as my fastest?
Pretty sure the transponder pickup was few minutes down track that is a normal setup, so you pass through on your out lap. (reason for the 5 min L1), the booth may have been behind the start but the pickup was down stream. After passing the pickup you are counted every time you pass the pickup from full laps of the course for timing. It reads correct as it is seen on the results (just saying what it reads), you did 3 complete laps with 5 minute distance to the pickup on your out lap. You got lapped from the leaders on your 3rd full lap and you were closed out accordingly. Again I am not telling you what you feel you did, just what the timing chart says you did. Its hard to argue those things, they just download the data as it comes in, if it screws up a lap the system 'knows" there is an issue, it is fairly fail safe and very accurate. Regardless man You rock! went out to an island, transported your bike, had fun, participated in a historic event, no injury, bike worked fine, all smiles and your fastest lap was big improvement and on your final lap, all winning combos!
Heres another Husky guy, he raced Tecate on Sat and did 40 pro on Sun at Catalina, I think also Alexander Smith did the same. http://www.tracksideonlineresults.com/trackside/glenhelen/racer.asp?n=11153
Thanks so much. it sort of makes sense. Funny thing is I felt at the time the last lap was WAY slower than the first. The first I was all adrenaline and got tired 3/4 through it. The last I was tired of crashing and I thought I slowed way down. Anyways I think I'm hooked, it was WAY fun!!!
A (way faster than me) rider (Troy LeGrande) on the d37 board posted up some video of my race @ catalina. It shows how AWESOME the course was. I'm in Red directly in front of him, and I got out just a little bit ahead of him in the quagmire at the first turn. It gets pretty entertaining when his bike goes wonky on him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42iBbO8cmFM And then he got a pretty decent shot of my 1st crash @ 6:31 on lap 2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wi-2lECWaMg
Cycle World's Ryan Dudek nerve wracking H Cam vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNyxj0L1U3Q&feature=player_embedded Dudek still rips, those wider roads get very thin when the speeds go way up.
Someone with the hiccups uploaded that film. Hard to believe it's been going on for over 50 years.... There's some old vids from 57 on YouTube.
