Is it possible to obtain a replacement copy of a certificate of origin for a WR? Considering a used bike. Current owner is the 2nd owner. Owner number 1 didn't give cert of origin to owner 2. Owner number 1 never registered or titled the bike. I would consider buying bike but I want to plate it. Is there any way for me or owner 2 to obtain another cert of origin that I could bring to motor vehicles to title and plate bike? I assume owner 1 is now out of the picture. Not sure if I have this post in correct place so please move if necessary. Thanks
Me personally, I'd stay away from any deal like that. It's too much murky water for me. As they say if the deal sounds too good to be true.. It usually is too good to be true.
Eventually is will get old enough not to need a title just a bill of sale, at least it used to be that way. Unless you are in a no sales tax state you should be required to proove sales tax was paid by owner 1 and owner 2. They you need to pay sales tax for your purchace of it. I would at least investigate this for your state. It just seems like a replacement certificate of origion might be issued to the origional purchacer it just seems like a poor business practice to issue replacements to anyone else.
I know some dealers here in PA, will hold on to the certificate of origin and will give it to you ONLY after paying the sales tax on it , Which would have been the original purchase price to the 1st owner?
Usually, only the original selling dealer, can request a re-issue of the MSO. Distributor will charge the dealer to do this, so be prepared to pay. I can't remember, if it is 3 or 5 year limit to do this. I did this on my '02 WR125. I bought it used from my Husky dealer. It had the dreaded.... "Off Highway Use Only" on the MSO. Husky 2 stroke MSO's that year were coming un-restricted, so dealer suggested trying a re-issue. I gambled $50 and it came back "clean". With Husky changing US Distributors this year, a re-issue may not be an option.
Recently,I had a customer try to get one for a used bike he picked up out of state.the bike was a 2010.he contacted husky NA and was not able to get one.think he spoke with Jenna at the time.
