Instead of going riding this weekend like I originally planned, I ended up changing my front / rear sprockets and chain on the TE630. Was checking the chain & sprockets today before heading out and noticed a slight oil leak by the front sprocket and at the same time noticed the front sprocket had some significant wear. Kept the front sprocket the same size as stock (JT Sprockets Chromoly-Steel 15T) and went up 2 teeth in size on the rear (stock was 42T, new sprocket is JT Sprockets Steel 44T). I cleaned up the engine / transmission case and left the sprocket guard off to track the amount of oil leakage, so far it hasn't shown up enough to affect the level in the sight glass. New chain is D.I.D. 520 VX Pro-Street, 112 links in length (I reversed the direction of the clip after taking the photo). The bike has about 6,670 miles on it and it had about 4,900 when I bought it early this year. One thing that bothered me is that all of the bolts on the rear sprocket were loose, no bolts fell out, but was an important reminder to check these types of things more often in the future. I put blue loctite on the bolt threads when I put the new sprocket on. Already notice that the bike is easier to start from a stop with the 44T rear sprocket compared to the stock 42T, still cruises easily at freeway speeds too.
That joining-link clip should be the other way around, so that it is less likely to be flicked off by a well-aimed stick.
I wouldn't be surprised if the "oil leak" is just a build up of excess chain lube. Mine looks the same.
There is an o-ring in behind that collar on the countershaft. if it still leaks pull the collar and the o-ring with a pick and replace.
