Anyone tried the Best Dual Sport Bike clutch weight on their 501? I like the idea of being able to easily remove this for different applications. The Steahly weight is epoxied on (permanent ).

wow that looks like a pretty good idea, made possible by the Belleville clutch configuration. Just need to make super sure that you have cover clearance after you mount it up. I wonder how and if it effects clutch feel with more effective mass (but it is spinning) on the pressure plate
I remember old school adding steel drive plates to weight the clutch and of course Flywheel weights as well to slow down the rev.

The 501 has a great flywheel effect and tractors great as is.

The "Big Oily Clutch Cover" is real cool, carved from a chunk of Billet Aluminum, It holds 8 oz. more oil, It's beefy at the bottom where it needs to be to keep the brake pedal from punching a hole in the cover if dropped. Priced right at $120.00 too. Could be cheap insurance where I ride. Plus increasing the cases volume to carry extra oil is always good.

Who needs anodizing when its going to get worn off anyway from the grit and your boots on this particular area worse than any other part on the bike probably.

I got one of these and it seems to more solid than the OEM cover and volume is bit higher-----but 2T has lower oil temp--usually.

    Nice Robert,
Isn't that cover required for clearance to run the Rekluse set up though? Depending of course on which Rekluse set up you are running? It does come with the full on kit that has the plates, with the hub, basket and all doesn't it?

I wouldn't think that there is any clearance issue with the 14 OZ. clutch/flywheel weight these guys make.

It says in the instructions it fits behind the stock cover. Their billet cover they sell made by the same company is the way to solve that problem if there was a clearance issue but it apparently isn't required.

Their Billet "Big Oily Clutch Cover" is definitely a nice piece. I like the solid meat at the bottom with the countersunk cap screws on the Bestdualsportbikes.com cover.

Compared to what I have now, shown below for toughness and protection. Which as you can see was one of my first mods on my bike that I had addressed.

Robert, I said my first mods! I don't leave anything stock, ever. It doesn't look like that now. I got the "Flo" pegs on Ebay at the time under $80.00. They are identical to the Warp 9s, Except for labeling, I've compared them side by side. This picture was before the stock pipe was even removed and then the rear shock for a spring change. Then silicone sealer had to dry on the slip fit joints on the FMF system overnight. So yes it was before it had even been ridden.

It still only has 440 miles of single track through the rough storm ditches and rocky 2 tracks here. About 27 hours of total time, That isn't going very fast. I do get out on some open fast trails some days but the washes, ravines and ditches are 1st gear maybe second momentarily and back to first again. Very rough technical riding. No volunteers to go with me to do this area either. Packs of Wild Javelina's, Mountain lions, Drug Smugglers and Illegal Human Traffickers in the same ditch in confined spaces at the same time are no fun to come across.

    Yes Robert,

Sierra Vista is about 50 miles west of here and a bit further North of the Border. From here take Highway 80 to Highway 90 or 92.

The high desert is nice and green right now. An unexpected treat for us. Something of a thought which seems foreign to people that don't understand what real AZ high desert is.

Traction is awesome right now with very little dust.

Tractability in the low speed rocky sections is a must . Walking speed momentum is Paramount. The sandy washes full of rocks may be dry when you go out and with a bit of monsoon rain can be anywhere from wet as you come back. To the ditches being full on flooded. This can happen within an hour or less. "Roll offs" are a must. Knowing the weather is good but being able to predict it is impossible.

Nothing like riding a dry creek bed on an overcast 40% chance for rain day. Straight up a sandy creek bed ditch at 4000 to 5000 ft. elevation and actually running right into the coming flash flood. Flowing down the wash towards you and ride right into it head on and get to watch the front of the leading edge of the water as it's foaming as it leads its way right under the bikes wheels. It gets deeper as you proceed into it from the rains upstream you haven't even hit yet. Your style of riding, throttle control, clutch control, along with path selection will have to change immediately.

Add several lightening strikes to the mix and your riding experience is hair raising to say the least.

It's truly like a "National Geographic" moment.

    Snake oil.

If your stalling your motor often, think about covering the clutch. The 501 is good to go from the factory with its heavier flywheel.

I've had only 1 stall ever in 500 miles of single track and that was only riding it the first time after installing the 280 lb. Slaven's heavy duty Belleville clutch spring. I quickly got out a few tools for my double adjustable folding levers and made an adjustment to my lever pull and haven't had a stall ever again since. Don't think I will ever put a "Rekluse Auto clutch" in it either.

Some have told me the FE 501 "S" model even has a heavier weighted flywheel? Than the standard FE 501 has. Is that true?

I haven't ever seen that in print form or any other evidence to substantiate it to be a fact, other than just a statement from a "know it all".

    Anybody actually know?

Not that I would ever own or want an "S" model. Don't need it here in AZ to go down the road with Plates, Registration and insurance.
