• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Kevin (CodgerRider) wrote me last night from Vancouver enroute to Houston TX.
He had a low speed mishap on his TR near Whitehorse. Although the bike is unscathed, he tore his
rotator cuff in his left shoulder and is unable to continue his adventure.
He's flying back to Houston to have it looked and no doubt an operation to have it repaired.
I believe his TR will be crated and shipped back home.
All the best to him and a speedy recovery.

I enjoyed following his Adventurer Ride very much and was saddened by the news. I am sure I am not alone. Let him know he has a lot of lurker friends that wish him a speedy recovery. I still look forward to his ride report and feedback on the Terra. Any more details on the accident? Animal? Bad traction? Collision? Bike related? For now, though, concentrate on healing, Codger. You are the envy of many.
EDIT: Just saw the accident details on another thread. A fluke thing for sure.

Kevin, on that long ride around Alaska and Canada, had a zero speed tumble in Whitehorse when he couldn't find footing after stopping on top of a berm. The fall tore a rotator cuff and he is now in Vancouver, BC, preparing to fly home for surgery. The bike will be shipped. He was at 10,000 miles into his 21,000 mile route, but is finished for this year. He said the bike was perfect on the trip, no damage in the fall, and ran just fine on regular gas. That question is not answered!

Ken - 'that question is not answered'? Not sure what you mean...

Glad he is getting the medical attention he deserves, though obviously it would be better if it hadn't happened.

I think he meant "that question is now answered." :excuseme:

Did he have the booster plug? Seems like this stumble is a very dangerous issue.

I believe what happened is that there was zero bike speed, and no place to put down a foot.

I'm not sure 'tumble' = 'stumble'

Coffee is correct. No "stumble" involved. He just failed to find footing on the top of a steep berm and went over like a tree falling. I did the same on the TAT when I couldn't get a foot down when stopping to open a fence gap. Man did I fall hard right on my shoulder. I felt the shock go right thru my shoulder to my back and my other shoulder. Without a suit of body armor I think I would have had I right there, and ride over.

We start the COBDR tomorrow, and I have my new body armor ready to go!
