Set out for work at 28 degrees thursday morning got the little snowflake on my dash to light up. I am at 7500 feet elevation so frost comes early had some snow on wed. Time to pull out heated glove liners. I was wondering what your coldest day on your husky has been so far. deb
My coldest ride so far was this spring...remember I had to scrape the frost from the speedo before I could see the thermostat. It read -7C or about 17.5F.....so far this fall i've gone as low as -3C or about 26F. Your not a real Canadian biker until you have learned to ride while sitting on your right hand to get the feeling back and drive with your left on the throttle, then switch hands on the fly.....been lucky so far and never hit any black ice. Once is gets so cold the "snow Flake symbol" turns into the word "Dumbass"
I'm just a few hours east of you, but I think it's a great deal colder here in the winters. But I'm sure you guys get hotter in the summers.
Just got the husky in september so not so hot. have ridden through the mojave desert in july (ok not the smartest choice) on my vstrom. Left kingman az at 4am to beat the heat (yeah) 96 degrees over 100 by the time I hit needles luckily a bit cooler by barstow as the smog kept the sun at bay. I have a vest that can water down and works like a swamp cooler really helps. My first ride from nm to kingman was pretty hot and I hadn't learned to keep hydrated got a little goofy by the time pulled off the highway and almost forgot to put my feet down at the stop light. I have learned since to stop often for gas and stretch and drink(water) beer is the destinated beverage. As for cold some of the warmest gear I have a biker facemask I got in canada you guys know how to handle cold! Warmest socks I've ever had got in Prince Ruport as those folks know how to stay warm on fishing boats. deb
Temps in our valley and elevation in southern OR are around 30 degree F in the morning and 75 degree F in the afternoon right now. Heated grips and heated gear in the am and vents open and wishing for mesh gear in the afternoon.
We're only getting into the 60's but windy enough to keep gear on in the afternoons. Don't have too much room to stash extra gear. deb
Last winter in Chicago I occasionally saw mid/upper 20's in the mornings on the way to work before I put her away due to the Christmas snow storm. I actually took delivery and rode the bike home during light snow flurries last November!
I know some of you are seeing colder days on the bikes it was in the mid 50's here in Florida this morning. So far my coldest.
I figure I will be a firebird, I'll vacation north for the hot scorching temps. We had 90's the last few days, it is getting cold now. Still using my swamp cooler in the evening to cool things down. As far as riding temp, well, I started the bike up and I think it was about 70, and started fine. In the past I've driven my BMW to below zero temp. It was my only transportation that year in Denver. Snow, rain, hail, I promised myself to be a fair weather rider. If it is below 50º, I most likely will not ride. The fun riding is at higher altitudes, and that then gets real cold, no sir ree. Not me. Been there, done that, and have a car for them days. I remember many a trip driving with outriggers, (both feet out), I shiver thinking about it. You younger folks, that is more for you. I broke through ice with a three wheeler once and that is a cold you never want to feel. How I never suffered frostbite is a miracle. Thus the move to warmer climate with miles and miles of desolate exploration. I have had icicles in my nose, no thank you.
I guess the coldest days out here in sunny So Cal are days when it's snowing, which isn't too often, but I have ridden during a snowfall.
I see a lot of tr650 non owners troll through this forum do you tr650 owners read the other forums if you do not own those bikes? Not trying to be rude just curious
Last winter we went for a blast around the lake at -5f. Passed a couple sleds on the back tire Have fun and be safe
Wasn't really paying attention to what forum it was in. Just thinking about snow....but mostly just thinking about riding.
Just a better day at work when I ride even if cold. last three mornings low 30's. Snow is softer than rain but I get a bit nervous with one wheel drive! Hail is the worst as usually have to lift up visor have actually bruised my cheeks before. deb
