Broke my collar bone and shoulder blade a couple of weeks back after a first corner incident that didn't go my way. (see pics I'm #35) Was just wondering if anyone who has been in this prediciment before, and there must be a few out there, has any gentle physio/exercises that I can do to stop my shoulder seizing-up. Just want to do what I can so I get back to riding as soon as possible. Thanks in advance, a frustrated Husky 430

Oh man and caught on film, bummer. Been there broke that. But is was about a million years ago on a quad on a beach WFO. Hit a log and woke up in the hospital. Had some strap thing that went behind my shoulders. Sucked. Big lump but no pain lots of years later.

I have no advice for you, husky430, as that's one of the few bones I've yet to break (that sound you hear is me knocking on wood!) but I just wanted to say that's a really cool photo sequence  I wish I had frame-by-frame accounts of some of my more memorable injuries :) Will you be doing any physical therapy? What did the doctor say? Good luck and hope you heal up quickly and completely!

Collar bone breaks are no fun, treatment depends on severity. I've broken both sides, one into three pieces(sling and figure 8 needed, should have had surgery), left it in the sling for six weeks and then started physio.

If your break is bad and no sugery, just keep your elbow moving several times a day, until the bone is strong enuff to support shoulder( 3-6weeks) depends on the individual and the break

The other side crash was much worse yet the break didn't show on xray, probably was just a stress fracture. I can feel a little gap/ridge now, i was riding the next weekend, although it took me a few days before I could lift my arm above my head.

ultimately listen to your doc, preferably an ortho than considers your athletic lifestyle.

Listen to the Doctor and then when green lighted get the physio on to it big time. Its the exercise and physio that will bring back the motility and strength.

I must second what ghte said. Listen to your doctor. That is so important. Even take a few weeks longer to heal. Its better to wait a longer time, then to come back early.

I broke mine in vintage racing also ... It looked awful in x-rays but the docs really did nothing to it .. I could have forced them to open it up and pin it back together, but I'm not down with that ...

So, no brace or anything ... The bones will just mend back together where they come back in contact together and the part sticking out past the mend area, will just die off ...

Most of my pain went away after a few months and today(~4 years later), it is the least of my worries ... I'd say just rotate UR shoulder on that side alot and do what the doc says ... Range of motion is the real issue here ...

I don't think I missed a day of work either ... ;) ... Mine was a stupid crash that should never have happened ...

Nice pics of the incident ... Next time, get UR hand off the bar :) I did the same thing ... Just rode my shoulder into the ground because I did not even realize I was going over till I slammed into the ground :(

Did the 177 come over and clip U or did you clip the guy on the inside of the track?

Broke in four places with a 1" section right in the middle that had dropped out. They just left it that way. Figure 8 and back to work in 5 days. Riding by the end of the month, but I was 21, then.

My right shoulder sits in a inch more than my left to this day.

Looks like a lot of people has had the same break. Interesting! Same here. I was pinned in 3rd in a grassy field between sections & hit a log which threw me in the air sideways & when I hit i slammed my shoulder right in the ground. [Full gear, just like you]. Just listen to the doctors & move your arm as much as you can when he say's you can. Good luck. Been there, done that.

It's a pretty common break in dirtbikers, and due to the force of our collisions tends to get displaced, and often doesn't heal well without surgery. Can't say about your case without seeing the xray (and probably not even then, lol, since i'm no doc). Good luck healing up. When I broke mine, i opted for surgery and was racing 8-10 weeks later.
