All, I am going to be spending quite a bit of time in Columbus, GA for work over the next few years. I don't know anything about the area, and am looking for info (currently live in CT). All I know its right on the AL border and I assume many people live in AL and commute to Columbus...if so...where do people live? What areas do I want to stay away from? I will likely rent a place if I can find one and my family and I might end up spending time there and here in CT. What about riding? Any good areas? Race series? etc. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Wolf
Hopefully someone from GA will chime in. I have seen this site based in GA http://georgiaoffroad.com/ I once found myself in an unfamiliar city and asked a police officer were and where not to rent. His advice turned out to be spot on. Good luck!

I'm from AR (left about ~28 yrs ago) ... So I had to go north to cross the same line ... You gonna try and take a bike down there with you? Gotta be good riding there, maybe with some red clay dirt... What work are you gonna be doing down there?
Ray Ray, I work for Pratt & Whitney. Plan is to take a bike with me and find a house to rent....we'll see. Never lived anywhere south, and this is only temporary ...for now...but who knows. I gotta go where they pay me
Pratt & Whitney should hook you up! Yep, gotta go where you are pointed sometimes ... I was flying from Seattle area to Atlanta working once for about a yr ... Sucked but I got travel pay also. The riding time will be limited due to seasons but overall, I'd guess it is good there... Homes should be lower cost also -- I'm pretty grateful I'm from the south....Just about as happy also that I left it also and saw more of the world (ESP outside the states). Highland Park has 40 one-way trails, offering about 85 miles of great riding in the North Georgia mountains. All trails are rated in five levels of difficulty, beginner to expert, plus we have a PeeWee track, a huge 2.3-mile-long natural terrain MXGP track, and two scenic overlooks. Our trails are maintained, and more trails are added regularly. Snacks and drinks are available every day. Lunch is available Saturday and Sunday. Mountain bike riding, nature walks, hiking and other activities available. A full parts and service department on site, and KTM World, one of the largest KTM facilities anywhere, is located at Highland Park. We have five cabins available for rent. They are all very nice with air conditioning/ heat, ceiling fac, mini kitchen with fridge, microwave, counter top, nice beds, two windows with curtains, and all cabins have lofts and a porch. Charcoal grills and fire sites are also at the cabins. Short walk to the lodge and bathhouse. Free tent camping during the summer. Thanks for all the info. Based on what I have heard so far from co-workers, most end up living on the AL side as it appears to be cheaper. What about a race series?
Still trying to figure this out....now there is the potential of a full time move in play. So I am now exploring some more permanent solutions, which include schools, ride/race series for my son (AA rider), teaching opportunities for my wife,...etc. I need to be within 30 minutes of Columbus or less. AL or GA. I was looking at Auburn, Phoenix, etc....any help/advice?
