FE/FC Coming from TXC310R, which Husky (KTM based) would be best for me?

So I am a vet racer currently running a Husky TXC310R. I have been having problems with the bike and are thinking of getting a new (KTM based) Husky. I have been riding for years and do hare scrambles. Up until the TXC I have only owned Jap MX bikes.

I like the TXC and while a bit down on power compared to my MX bikes, it's handling is superb, but reliability is pushing me toward the new KTM based models. Why Husky you ask? In my state I can plate any model Husky. I live 1-3 miles from all the trail heads, so crossing and go down roads legally to connect trails frequently so is a must.

Dealer can get me a plate on a new FE350/501 or even on the motocross bikes 250/450. I don't want to take a step down to a 250 and are thinking the 501 is just too much bike for the tight single track that I frequent. So that leaves me with the FE350 or an FC450 (they don't sell FC350's in the US). The goal is to get a killer hare scramble bike, with street ability an afterthought.

Am I better off just getting the enduro based 350 or would a motocross based FC450 with the addition of say a heavier flywheel to smooth out the power be better? I would revalve the suspension on both bikes for my tastes so not worried about suspension differences (enduro vs. MX).

If you were a hare scramble racer and could get either bike plated, would you pick the motocross 450 over the enduro 350, assuming suspension is out of the decision making process? Or is the 450 going to be too much bike especially in the tight single track?

I really like the nimble handling of the TXC310, but reliability is making look at the new bikes and I don't just want to assume the 350 is the best bike for my situation. Seems they are all about the same price give or take a few hundred.

Hey Rob, what made you choose the TE300 over the FE350?

I asked because of a recent mag test I read.
They got 6 trailriders and 6 bikes together then timed each guy on an approx 5min loop through varied bush terrain.
2 laps on each bike.

The bikes were all white Husky's - 250,350,450,501 4 strokes and 250,300 2 strokes.

I thought the 350 would clock the lowest average time but the 2 strokes came out on top.

1st 300
2nd 250
3rd 350/450
4th 250f
5th 501

So was wondering if the 300 2T choice was simplicity, reliability, thought he could be faster on the 2t, etc etc

You should just get the 350. I watched the video you posted a few months back of the race you did and it doesn't seem like you are riding the 310 to its full potential. I would think the 450 might be too much in the single track.

Most AA pros (on the eastcoast in the woods) don't ride anything bigger than a 350.

Just before I bought a 14 FE 350. I had a 13 TXC 310 and a 11 TXC 449.
The 350 handles just as good as the 310,feels lighter on the trail and has a much better tranny. The low to mid power on the 310 is a bit stronger but the 350 has a lot of upside potential for motor mods if you need them. My ideal bike would be the 350 with the cts rear and a bit more low to mid range power. I have almost a 1000 miles of hard off road use with no issues

As for me I had 3 finalists FE350 was tops, then Beta 300rr (LR's bike) then Wht Husky 300.......... one of my crew had a deposit for the FE350 local dealer ended up without alotment for it, I was still way on the fence. I just started thinking ammie level rider racer,,,,,initial cost played in, 13 Beta 1k less than 14 TE300, 14FE350 +1K again......4T bike dump in gas and go.....this went on and on I even had Pic of each one on my office wall. Then I really thought about simplicity and reliability in the bush/boonies with a carburated machine.... I went to 2T then it was 13 Beta or 14 TE... my dealer sealed the deal with offer I could not refuse (GP Motorcycles San Diego ) I called LR and removed myself from the hold on his bike .. but with a great caveat one of my crew (Cyril FR) instantly went and bought LRs Beta 300RR ( he has a FE350 and is back on Husky) and waited for the TE 300 box to arrive, Paul called me and I got to unpack and prep my own bike, that was cool!! I had not unpacked a bike since working at a NY dealer back in the 80s. I love this 300 I feel so much less stress riding it....my TE310 was and is still very reliable....but my TXC310R was crew laughinstock and always weighed my mind with bad thoughts and worries, I had not cursed a bike that much since my 04 TC450 with that Mikuni carb on it....PS now that the 310 has been ZipTyd it a super bike with its new owner (new owner ironically named Ty D as well)!! I guess I did all the mods and bullet proofing for my old soccer team bud the new owner!!
nyway back to the TE300 less stress zero worries. well proven platform very well evolved bike. I am so happy to be on this thing. rode one of the hardest local invite rides after only a couple hours of riding it completely stock and finished the event without much fatigue the bike is hardcore extreme enduro weapon. Just got the suspension worked on testing as we speak

also been watching those motology viddys with AR hosting Toby Price and ones with Grabbo Kearney and others especailly the 2 stroke viddy is epic.

fe350 will be my next bike. just wish they weren't so f@#kin expensive here!
