Since new my water pump weep hole has always dripped a bit of oil down the left side of the head. on my last 2 bikes i had the same issue and it went away after 20-30hrs of riding. I have 40hrs on my 630 now and it still leaks oil out the weep hole. Also, i noticed the coolant looked kinda grey and dirty and i figured just a touch of oil maybe getting in the coolant. So, i was going to change water pump seals (or get dealer to under warranty) when i got the chance. Well, yesterday i noticed just a hint of milky residue in the oil sight glass.

A forum search did come up with much? Just a 610 with the same issue and there was no resolution. I will start with water pump seals i guess. Anyone know price for seals off the top of theirs heads? If its $50 or less i will just do it myself and avoid the dealership hassle.

I think I would call the dealer first as it has the potential to be serious. Not saying it is and hoping not, but it could be and therefore I'd want their nod before working on it as they may end up w/ it to assess if it'll be a warranty claim. Hope you have it resolved soon and easily-

i wonder if they would warranty a bike with fmf pipe, fuel cranked up with the jd tuner, holes all over the air box? whatever...the 2 o-rings and seal was $10 from Halls. i will swap the seals out. i pulled the water pump off. looks like if the o-rings fail you get external leakage on the side of the head. but if the seal on water pump shaft fails then water gets in the oil and vice-versa. the inner lip of the shaft seal looked a bit murky and gray with water and oil? see how it goes. if i take it to the dealer it will sit for a month...so, i"ll try the quick fix 1st. surprised nobody else has had water pump issues?
After riding the bike the oil is clean. i must have looked at the sight glass just at the right moment. the bike had just come up to temp and i saw milky film inside the sight glass. as soon as the bike got hot there was no sign of moisture? bikes been sitting for a couple days now and the oil is clean? coolant looks murky though. if nothing else the new o-rings should stop the external leakage down the side of my motor i have had since day 1.

That little bit of milky residue on your sight glass is just condensate. Not to worry friend i just changed oil and it was pretty clean ...my site glass shows that slight film as well. after a good long ride (hot motor) it should be gone. Getting colder out here in the mid west now... i didn't see it in the summer.

Thanks man. Someone told me their KLR650 does the same thing in cold weather, that was a load off my mind. My new water pump seals came in and i drained my coolant last night into a clear bottle. Coolant is gray and murky, yet the coolant in the bike's overflow tank is clean and blue? Looks like oil was getting in the coolant?

i have not heard about any 630s with oil in the coollant.altho sooner or later it will happen to some body.it is common for some weeping around the waterpump housing on all husky motors using that head.some weep a bit more than others.trying to fix it is sort of like pissing in the wind.dan

Dan ...do you mean weeping oil into the coolant or weeping coolant into the oil?

Thanks Dan, I guess it could be possible that the moisture i saw in the oil site glass could have been condensation (as mentioned above). And maybe the murky gray coolant that came out of my bike is just discolored from internal engine grime and aluminum dust??? I don’t really have another husky to compare to? But the coolant in the expansion tank is clean-clear-blue. Change the seals and check the coolant after each ride I guess.
