New to the board here, glad I found the wealth of info about Husky's. Have a new 09 TE 610 and want to replace the sloppy fitting CS Sprocket and chain. Any input on where I can get a quality sprocket (Brand) and the same with the o-ring chain. Setting it up right now, got the PCV w/Auto Tune and the Leo S/O can. will post my pics and results shortly. Thanks for any feedback. Richard
I'm interested in hearing some input as well. My 08 with a lil over 7,000 is showing some wear on the stock (well fitting) CS sprocket, and the stock chain seems to be getting a lil "stiff"
Wow, i am lucky to get 1400 miles out of a chain and sprockets of any brand on any of my bikes. My 125 is due for some and it only has 1400. You must be real EZ on your bike. I do ride right through the winter (mud) though.
well. it IS a 610 LOL.. I do probally 30 percent pavement 40 % dirt roads, where I am hard enough on the throttle to go through alot of rear tires, then the remaining 30 % on abandoned roads / trails which can range from norm single track to slippery rooty and nasty rocky conditions. I did reaplace the rear sprocket a few thosand miles ago, it shows no wear. I also use George's fav chain lube often and liberally.. used motor oil !! I have heard on ADVrider, SOME guys getting about the same on their 610's. I guess during the times you ARE doing pavement miles, you are racking up easy miles quickly. oh and also, here in New Englad I RARELY spend time in any sand, and also stay out of the BIG mud. The 610 is just to heavy to pull out when I'm out in the woods somewhere on my own. I'd imagine those are the two quickest "eaters" of chains and sprockets.
some have said that Afam and Renthal sprockets seem to fit the best on the 610 countershaft.no doubt they are very good quality brands.they both have real good alu rear sprockets also.as for chain, i think the DID VT narrow xring chain and the RK MXU narrow chain are two strong choices.i have used both with excellent results.the DID chain is a rivet type masterlink, some people like that ,some dont.the dirtricks sprockets are top shelf as well but a bit of a wound to the wallet.dan
Wow I'm on my 3rd rear in 2600 miles and 2 chains I really like the motosportz front sprocket and dirt tricks rear. I hate rivot chains.
I replaced my stock chain with a D.I.D. 520 VM Gold X'ring sealed chain. They're rated for up to 750cc engines while some of the others are only rated up to 500cc's. It looks like this - see link below. http://www.sprocketcenter.com/p/246040/did-520-vm-gold-xring-sealed-chain-.html
I bit the bullet and got a proper rivot tool. Works like a champ and makes it a painless effort. The RK kit works very well. Not cheap, but I have a few chain driven bikes so a worthwhile purchase.
Smart move. The chain is a disaster waiting to happen. The oem sprocket on mine was sloppy loose. First three mods on my '09 before I even rode it were: DID 520VM Gold Ironman front sprocket - http://www.dirttricks.com/ Case saver from BMP (on ebay) I will soon replace the rear sprocket with an ironman.
I run a "Super Sprox" countershaft and use a molyebdeum high pressure, high priced, high heat, shaft drive spline grease. The sprocket fits tight enough that it needs to be tapped on!!! after some time though it will go on by hand. Then your favorite "name brand" chain. Clean and lube the chain and the shaft splines regularly and your good to go. I'm at 11,000mi. and zero troubles......
The thing that impressed me about the Dirt Tricks stuff is the one year guaranty and the fact that the steel used in the front sprockets is what the dies for a punch press are made of. Hard and tough stuff. I got their sprockets and a Regina Zring chain. Kinda spendy, but I shouldn't have to deal with it again, maybe never.
Really good luck with D.I.D on other bikes. Looking at the 520 VM as well. Looks like 114 links for stock gearing - is that correct?
